I imagine this question has been asked a bzillion times - however - I've got to know. I got my Wegner jr, which is the perfect for me in that size. But, I want a "fuller" sized folder for those special tasks. I would get the jumbo version of the Wegner, except for the weight. I think, based on the work I do and how I typically dress that the big one is a little bit too heavy. A couple of ounces does make a differece. The Star Mate however, at just a shade over 4 ounces seems more like it. It is reported to be very strong and of course, the blade steel is irresistable. The question is, when will that knife be available? Is it's appearance imminent? Has anyone handled or tested a prototype? I think my radar is locking onto that knife. You all know the feeling. Zzzzzaaaaaap!

Jack, I played with one! I want it! Blade grind is nice with a slightly smaller blade than the Military but same thickness. Grip is G-10 and feels good, again smaller than the Military. Style is Bob T all the way. You might check Ironstone Knives that is where I handled one serial numbered below 20. Fish

Jack, don't be afraid of the Wegner, Sr. I've had two, only to have guys buy them from me. That knife is that impressive. It's solid as a rock, but you quickly adjust to its hefty feel in your hand.

Now the StarMate, however, that's destined to become another Spyderco Classic in my opinion. Those of you who would like to contribute to the Kysa-StarMate Fund, just send $US currency my way! LOL

I agree with Kysa. I' ve said it a few times, the Wegner is my favorite all around liner lock folder.

Hmmm... a Wegner LITEWEIGHT??!! Sal??

Nakano 2, that is an interesting suggestion. A large Wegner lightweight! Sal, has that possability ever been considered? Would it be possible to engineer a large lightweight Wegner with the same strong feel of the regular version?

Perhaps it would be easier to just pony up for a Star Mate. However, if a W. lightweight came along I could always pounce on that too.
