My Starmate has a problem, sort of. The lock slide down the slope of the tang if you gently try to close the open knife without releasing the lock. It stops sliding right before it reaches the edge of the tang. It in no way fails, though. It passes the spine whack, hard cutting chores, and everything else. It's just that between the slippage and the overall flexibility of the liner, there is a lot of blade play now. Have had the knife for maybe two months now, it is one of my favorites. Should I send it in, or not worry about it? Is there anything I could do myself to fix the problem? I would like very much for it to be as rock-solid as my new military.

(PS Sal I like the new style Military a lot) Oh, and i checked for lubricant/dirt buildup, and it's clean. Thanks for reading and have a nice day fellow spyderco fans!

According to Sal Glesser, that is what the eccentric pivot is for, but you should NOT try to adjust it yourself. Send an email to Spyderco customer service and ask them what to do, that is if they don't come in here and get involved. I suspect that they are going to ask you to send it in to them for repair. I have had my Starmate for 1 1/2 years and never had a lick of trouble with the lock-up, so I know that your problemhas to be a glitch in your particular knife.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply, FullerH. As far as I can tell, the root problem is that the lock is not "springy" enough. It does not want to go to the locking side with a great deal of pressure. It could be that it just needs to be fine tuned, you think? The eccentric pin basically pulls the blade closer to the lock bar, right? I don't think I'd want to mess it up trying it myself.
