Just wanted to ask how to make up a static cord for a sheath. How long to make it? Is 550 cord best to use? I've read some posts saying 550 cord is used. Do you have to buy it in a big quantity? If so,where is a good place to order it. Don't have any surplus stores around me. Also how do you place sheath on your belt when on the cord?
Thanks for the help - sorry if its a tired subject.

Hello. Statuic cord is VERY simple concept. You are just tying the knife to your belt. For example on neck knife, just loop neck cord around belt secure, stick knife and sheath in belt between pants and belt. When you pull knife, sheath will also be removed and will fall away from blade when cord is pulled tight. You are using the cord to keep shaeth attached to belt. You can use any cord, 550 works great and is available online many places. Brigade Quartermasters at http://www.actiongear.com stock it and other neat stuff. Any thing else will work too. Shoe lace is good and lots of colors available.
The length is up to you, it will depend on what point in the draw you want the sheath to come off the blade. It is a very nice way to carry a fixed blade, easy on; easy off. I hope this helps.

Hi John. I'm no expert but I would suggest you consider a boot lace if you don't have access to 550. You can buy boot laces at the local grocery store, shoe store, etc. With regard to the length, this is probably best determined through trial and error. The right length, it seems to me, would be the length that allows you to unsheath your knife at the right point; perhaps two feet from your body?

I hope this helps. Good luck.
