Sal, are there any steel changes schedualed?

I really want a Lil' Temperance but I wish it had VG-10 or BG-42 steel.

Off the subject: I feel that the World Knife and the multi colored salsa cheapen Spyderco's image. To me they seem like a device to catch people that don't have enough sense even to appreciate a good knife, much less a Spyderco. I am not saying this in a critical way,
but rather in a helping way.

My understanding is that the next run of Temperance Jr. will be in BG-42. The model will evolve and change in each production run.

Thanks, do you know when the next run is?

You said the model will evolve with each production run, Do you know if these are minor adjustments or more drastic changes such as blade stlye?

I can't wait to get at least one of all the knives you mentioned. On the Salsa and World knife catching people, I think it is more a way to introduce people to a quality Spyderco knife. I bet they will appeal to folks that never would have bought, say, even a Delica. Jeff

Hi Fisherman. The Pride (we decided to use Pride instead of World knife) and Salsa are aimed at a lower price point. The "inexpensive" competition is grabbing much of the market share. If we make only high line knives in a market that is steadily getting cheaper, we would have to shrink up the company.

I think that it is more realistic to say that these models are not in your preferences, but I think they will appeal to others.

Regarding the steel changes, just the changes From ATS55 to VG10 in many of the Seki made models.

Sal,
It is obvious that you know the best market stategy and I don't.
I just know that in some cases a company can devirsify itself to much. I also know you should not put all your eggs in one basket.
These are just my personal thoughts, to me the Pride, and any multi-colored inexpensive knife (not saying inexpensive knives are bad), fit in with a "Pick one up at your local convienience store" theme.
I agree that they could be used to intro non-knife people into the quality knife world, but what will Spyderco be in ten years if the enrolement of such knives continues? Only 3 4 inch knives at present.
I know Spyderco will always be on top in the knife world but does the definition of being on top change?

Thanks,

fisherman
