Okie dokie...
My g/f's brother has ordered a big knife from me, a 9 inch bladed Bolo style knife, with an Integral Sharpened D-guard/Knuckle Duster...

Now...
What steel would be best for it?

He wants 154-CM... but I dont know if it could stand up as such a blade...

So, what steel should I suggest to him?

I make large blades in 154CM all the time. Just don't try to make a thin razor out of it and it will do fine. S30V is better is he wants stainless. CPM-3V is the best IMO.

Unless you put an excessively thin edge on it or get lousy heat treating, 154CM is fine for a 9" knife.

Thanks Jerry! :D

Wasnt going to put a razor thin edge on it anyway... said that its going be a field knife...
Not sure about his sharpened knuckle-duster idea , but hey, he wants it, he gets it, already discouraged him from other stuff, he's dead set on this... so.. I'll do it. heh.

Thanks again! :)

He'll likely have you unsharpen that knuckle-duster the first time he finds it is more dangerous to himself than it is to any imagined opponents. He'll likely learn the meaning of "collateral damage". :D
