Are the steel handled Endura 4's stronger than the FRN models? Does anyone know how they are constructed? Are they made from a single piece of steel?

Thanks,
Jason

definitely, the steel ones are, well, steel. steel that is both stronger than FRN and it allows for tighter tolerances. but, every pro has its con, teh steel ones are way and way heavier than the FRN's......and more expensive, they do slide in the pantspocket real smooth though :)

secondly the steel ones are not one-piece, but rather riveted together. (look closely under the right light, and you will notice the little round rivets. spyderco does a very good job of finishing their steel handles, couple of years ago i could've sworn my police was a made as a one-piece.... :o ..)

The steel is also prone to finger print. I could only notice the rivets after applying some FP-10 to mine, the FP-10 must have worked its way in and now I can see very very faint circles where the rivets are.

Other major problem is that most of spyderco's stainless steel handled models do not have pivot screwes and when they develop blade play it can be a severe annoyance.

a few light taps with a plastic,or rubber mallet should fix that.

Or just realize the whole blade play thing is way over played on the net.

it sure is. basically ALL SS models will develop horiz. play at one time or another and it's not that big a deal.

also, trying to fix the blaeplay by putting the rivets tighter, IS a good idea, but make sure what you're doing and do it careful. i managed to completely jam a SS spydie once by pounding the handle-rivets.....and then had to bent the scales outwards again to get the bladeo ut. that sucked major ass :grumpy:

Before I switched over to Benchmade folders for my EDC's (sorry, Sal :o), I carried a SS Endura and a SS Delica, and I found both of those to be excellent folders...(It's just a shame that they weren't more "lefty-friendly", as far as the pocket-clip goes.).

The SS Endura and SS Delica are both VERY solid knives that have an excellent "feel" in the hand...
