Hate to sell this high-performance TK Steingass 3V bowie, but life happens. Actually, Ive been trying to find a good combination of large knife/small knife that I can carry in the wilderness area where I live. The big knife has to be able to process wood for fire/shelter. I tried a big bowie in W2 steel, but the edge didnt stand up to heavy chopping the way I wanted. Then I tried TKs bowie in 3V. End of problem.
This is a user bowie, and the reason Im selling it is because a bolo in 3V works better for my needs. But these two choppers have made me a believer in 3V. This bowie has a 3V blade that is 7.25 inches from hilt to tip. 5/32-inch stock. Full flat grind. The best bowie design Ive ever seen. The handles are spalted maple with red liners and a tapered tang. Stainless hardware. Standard leather sheath.
Issues: This is a user. I put a 30-degree primary bevel on it for high-performance cutting, which the 3V can handle. The primary bevel is a bit wider on the left side. The point is perfect very pointy. Then I put a 40-degree microbevel for a little added edge protection for heavy chopping. The microbevel makes it extremely easy to sharpen. There are some light scratches from grinding the primary bevel with a Wicked Edge sharpener. I dont know how they got there, but I did it. The clamping arms on the WE came loose at some point, and I think that caused the problem. Everything else is perfect. The left side of the handle, near the hilt, has a black spot, which is epoxy that TK used to fill a void in the handle that developed during sanding.
I paid $440 for this bowie. Because of the scratches on the blade, the high-performance edge and the fact that it is a user, my price is $285. That price includes shipping, insurance, PP fees and delivery confirmation within the US. No foreign sales this time because Im a little nervous sending this huge knife to countries where I dont know the laws.
The first date-stamped Ill take it, either in this post or by email gets it.
