I am participating in a virtual step challenge from my company. The goal is to have as many steps per week as possible. I set my goal to a meager 10k steps a day. But as a "sitting all day in front of my computer" person, I just thought, let's hike all day every day after work and you're good.

My better half enjoyed the idea and today we thought, let's do a spring weather hike. And spring it was. We started out at rain, which became snow and then sun. The actual snowflakes today were the freaking biggest I've seen in a long time.

So without any further ado:

The wind was cold and here I sit now, drinking a hot tea with a wonderful whiskey and enjoy the rest of the Sunday warm and comfy.

So after this week, I have an average step count of 11654 steps a day and I am proud of myself:)

Pretty cool man, thanks for sharing. What's that bunker looking thingy with the cage?

That’s awesome, keep it up. I was laid off last spring and summer because of COVID so my wife and I were walking daily, in July we averaged over 16,000 steps for the month. I never felt better and I’m 63 years old, now I am back to work driving a bus and I can tell I’m not as strong as I was. Hope you can keep it up.

Hi Harry,

sad to hear you were laid off due to covid. Good to hear the 16k (respect!) have done you good and I am also happy that you have a job again.

And yes, that is the plan. With our house now nearly finished (we renovated for 3 years) we have finally the time to exploit the reason we came here.
So daily hiking and trekking without the need to drive far is very much our plan. This challenge is a good kick for my inner pig dog :) (literal translation of my inner couch potato)

You have a good one! (5k steps until now - I need to go on a stroll tonight)

And here's this week's hike:

The 14 and the 17 are in my Pocket, the 7 in the Backpack:)

I don't know about that tree stump, but it looks suspect ...

An old tower that was already used in Napoleonic times

It was one of many relay towers from Paris to Mainz.

There also was a painted stone with a nice owl on it. (I was told that painted stones are a thing now)

After the 11 mile hike, we had a 2 1/2 hour celery (Baked with salt and honey) and a nice garlic Lamb steak...
This week's average steps are up to 12262spd

Next week I shoot for 13k.

You all have a good Sunday

We only got in about 6k steps this weekend - cleaning invasive honeysuckle out of about 600 feet of fence line, so much of the stepping was actually pulling/dragging brush.
In a couple weeks, once it's had a chance to dry out, we'll try to burn it.
This will clean up the area and hopefully inhibit some of the regrowth so I can plant clover as ground cover.

Today was a smaller hike, just around my house.
Nevertheless it was quite nice and interesting.

the way into the forest...

Up up up it goes... on trails that were quite travelled.

Even the Romans walked up here and made those ravines (Hohlwege)

The hills here are indeed old and beautiful...

Spring slowly starts here now

The 16 plus a SAK made the break very nice...

And a lost place from a little while ago (that abandoned railroad here has quite some cool places)

And then back home.

It was a 11km walk today and my average steps are now up to 13257 a day for this week.

The challenge will be officially over tonight, but indeed, that four weeks were quite nice, especially since the training starts to pay off. The stairs in the office (68) are no longer a challenge, I lost 2kilos without changing my diet. I feel more awake and it just feels good.

I will keep at it and just do it for myself..
So if you feel motivated (or not), just go outside and take a walk or two, it actually helps:)

Nice job on the numer of steps.
I enter a weekly challenge with my Garmin watch every week so I know that amount takes some dedication. Especially when you have a desk job.
It does motivate me to keep moving.
Hope you end up high in your companies rankings :D

Really enjoyed all the pictures of your hikes.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement:)
My Team came in second, that was quite a surprise, as I thought that there are runners in other teams.
I will continue to stay as active as possible, however, I need to slow down a bit over Easter to nurse some nasty blisters...

Hiking is my default outdoor activity, especially loaded down with a backpack full of knives, preferably Beckers:)

If you guys don't mind, I'll keep this open for hiking pics, and if you are out and about, also take pics and share them here.

You all have a wonderful Easter!

Good stuff.

I spend a lot of time outside due to the nature of my work, and sometimes I just want to stay out of the sun.

Your posts are motivating me to take better care of my health!

It's Easter Monday already and yesterday was just a smallish hike, but I am happy that I still managed to have an average step count of 11357 last week, despite that the challenge is over. (and a nasty blister to nurse)

And here are my pics of the Sunday hike:

Right now I am quite motivated to keep this up, maybe I'll motivate one or two here to do something similar:)

Last week I had to take care of one of my cats that was attacked by a stray.

Those bitemarks are nasty... But he's on the mend and will be alright :)

Nevertheless we managed to average 10143 steps/day.

Our "hiking" was more or less longer strolls in the evening, and due to the recent cold weather I did not take that many good pictures.

The forest around our house is being subject to heavy logging due to dryness, that looks quite bad, but I hope they know what they are doing...

EDIT: Don W Don W That is amazing :) Thank you very much for the feedback. It helps me to keep it up my motivation.
