I got this knife new and the lock is solid but really stuff to disengage. Its odd cause it varies between. Sometimes its really hard to disengage and other times its easier like any other framelock I've had. Checked to see if their's any junk or debris and its all clean. Any ideas about what causes this or is it just cause its not broken in yet?

Oil and grease can cause it to act like that. Sometimes its hard to see and it could be on the lock face as well as the blade if say too much was applied to a washer or a detent ball.

It could be associated with the amount of force used to open the blade also. Some snaps open let the lock really get in there farther while other lighter ones keep it from doing that. Obviously if the knife is new and the lock gets in there good it can stick more than the lighter openings.

If it looks clean it probably is. Oil gets dirty quick and won't be hard to see for long. I'd suggest that it needs time to break in. You can paint some graphite on the contact of the blade by using a #2 lead pencil and that should ease up the sticking for 20 to 30 openings and closings between having to reapply. It will break in with use so after a while it won't be necessary to keep using the pencil trick any longer. On some the locks are sprung so strong that they want to travel in farther than needed for a good contact. These can be problematic if the lock keeps moving farther and farther across faster than the break in and in these rare cases sometimes it is necessary to write down what you experience and mail it back to the manufacturer and ask them to tone it down a bit for you. Being a BenchMade you don't want to take it apart. That voids the warranty on them so you'd need to mail it in if the pencil trick doesn't work for you. I'd try that and see how it is in four weeks. It should be a whole new ball game by then.

Sounds good! Thanks for the advice! It's a nice knife but not really my favorite as I haven't managed to find that one so far. A simple 4inch easy to sharpen blade style with a good useable point, easy to break down and clean, tough steel and over the top secure lock seems hard to find.
