Stonewash a Buck 110, Brass + Stonewash?

I posted this on the maintenance forum, and someone suggested that perhaps someone here has done this, and may have some advice.

I have a Buck 110 with Brass bolsters and 154cm Steel that I am going to change the original Dymondwood to something a little more upscale. I was thinking that since I am already going to remove the scales why don't I stonewash the knife while I'm at it. I don't think I will be able to remove the blade to stonewash it alone because of the pinned construction, so any idea what would happen if I put the whole knife into the stonewash, how would the Brass take the stonewash?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

ugh .. i would not do it
i have seen ceramic stone cleaning pits in action
what it does to hard steel is wonderfull in cleaning it up
brass is SO much softer ... two things come to mind
one depending on how long either the blade wont take much of the look of stone wash
and the brass will not be tooooooo eaten away
or the blade will have that look and the brass will have a lot missing..
AND
that brass will lodge in the pores of the ceramic and may not allow it to work on the steel
but
reg my sig line
i really dont know what would happen to brass in that shaker
perhaps Joe has seen a brass frame come through a cleaner at buck?
good luck

sorry...trouble macking clicky...seach for this thread.......[How To -Help needed-112 blade/pivot pin removal]
If your considering removing the blade, for me it's an easyer job than a re-scale job... But that's me.

Thanx Obsessed :)

Thank you.

When the OP originally posted his question in the Maint forum, I vaguely remembered seeing a thread here in the Buck forum that might be pertinent to his situation, removing & re-installing the blade. I'm pretty sure your referenced thread was the one. I couldn't find it earlier, but the info you posted of the thread title helped find it again. Arksknives was one of the skilled craftsmen I had in mind, who might be able to provide good help or advice, so I was encouraged to read his tips about taking the blade out & re-installing it. Makes it sound pretty straightforward. I'd be tempted to try it myself, though I don't have a knife laying around right now that needs it. :)

Thanks for all the help, especially OWE, I think I'm going to try my luck removing the blade, I'm a bit scared about throwing the whole thing in the stonewash.

Frankly, I was a bit worried about that too. ;)

Good luck, hope it all goes well. Don't be shy about posting some pics!
