i just cleaned up and sharpened the used 1st gen delica I purchased and was doing some hard cutting tests when i noticed the lockbar will raise up when maybe 5-10 lbs of pressure was put on the cutting edge.

heres a pic:

I'm not really worried about the lock disengaging, but it isnt very comfortable in the hand nor comforting to feel the bar raise up when I am cutting.

Is this a warranty issue? or is this something that happens with older knives as the components get used?

(note: all the mechanisms are clean and free of lint/ dirt)

The downside of buying used knives is that you never really can tell how they were treated by their previous owner(s). The problem you have would certainly be a warranty issue on a brand new knife. On a used one, it becomes more likely that it is the result of abuse rather than defect. Is there a lof of side to side or vertical play, or both, if you wiggle the blade?

I have an old Endura of about the same vintage as your pictured Delica. I carried it at work for many years, never abused it, always did the cleaning and sharpening thing. It developed the same problem you seem to be having. I contacted Spyderco and they indicated that it was most likely time to retire it. This gave me the justification to replace it with a bunch of new spydies, which I wasted no time doing. The old Endura is now my letter opener

Thanks for the help guys. The blade has been extensively used (it was dull beyond imagination) So I won't trouble spyderco with it and just enjoy it for light duty and such.
