How good are strider knives? Where can I find more info on them?

DO they have the best edge retension and will they cut like a busse. Basically as a survival type knife would you trust your life to it?

Ether,

You can begin by cruising through the Strider Knives forum here at BFC.

Yes. I would.

When you begin comparing Strider to Busse you're going to get lots of VERY strong opinions one way or the other but I think you'll find both camps are right to support their choice. That being said, you aren't comparing apples to apples when putting Strider Knives' ATS-34 up against Busse Combat's INFI.

Edited to include link to Strider forum.

Strider vs. Busse to me is like wrestling vs. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Two different ways at attacking the same problem, both with their pluses and minuses. You can't go wrong with either.

I would definitely stake my life on either.

I have examples of both, as I suspect many Forum members do. As a gross over-generalization, if I were thinking of wilderness survival (against "the elements") I'd probably pick up one of my Busses. If I were thinking of survival against threats other than the elements, I'd probably grab one of the Striders----along with a couple firearms. Personally I think of my Striders as having a bit more of a combat focus than a woodsman's orientation, although they will certainly perform well in the outdoors.

Ether: Striders are AWESOME. Like someone here said of them once; "don't worry, just send in your money." That pretty well sums it up. Check out this link and if THAT doesn't say it all, then nothing will!

Just got a BT with Spine serrations myself, and it's one HELL of a blade! Like I've said in other posts, a bit smaller than what I was expecting, but I like REALLY BIG blades. :D

From the research I've done here, they truly are top-of-the-line, world-class, hardcore, badass knives that many people have successfully trusted their lives to, and will continue to do so.

Check out www.striderknives.com and call or email them as well. Just talked to Monique down there, and she was VERY helpful and friendly! I also know of a Strider dealer who has a few in stock. Email me if interested, and I'll give you his address. (NOT trying to advertise! :) )

I would not hesitate to trust my life to my Strider, and I actually bought it with that purpose in mind, should the situation ever arise.

Geez, I'm going through a lot of work for you...;) click here and I've done a search on "Strider" here in the forums. There are many, many pages for you to look at, and lots of good pics!

From what I've read, Busses are also top-notch blades. I just do not care for their styles at all; I MUCH prefer the more tactical look of the Striders. Plus, the Striders are less expen$ive! :D But NO sacrifices in quality, rest assured! Just send 'em your munny and wait! :D

Enjoy, and email with any further questions!

Also very, very enjoyable right now are the Buck/Stider Collaborations. Very good quality.

As is mentioned already, there are equally loyal followings on both the Busse and Strider fronts. True be told neither side is wrong on their opinions, and best not to let them lead you to eye blinders ;)

I've owned both and like both. As far as edge retention I've had to sharpen both brands after comparable work loads, its just the damn nature of steel, lol <i>"What is sharp, will become dull. It's just that simple."</i>

Now as far as Steels go, INFI has proven itself over and over that it holds an edge like no other and its the most servicable (ie sharpening, etc..) steel I've ever owned. I'm a piss poor sharpener, and for me to be able to fix dings and sharpen my own blade is a hell spawned miracle (yes there is such a thing). INFI is the only steel I can do well, other conventional steel BG-42, A2, ATS-34 drive me nuts when it comes to sharpening.

I'm on my first S30V blade now, which happens to be a Strider AR and have cut just about everything I can find in my apartment this thing is still scary sharp. The science is something I know nothing about but S30V might be another (the first since INFI) steel that I add to my preference list.

The decision should come down to your preference and nothing else, with that said it would be great if you have any way of seeing and holding them first hand like a show.
