stripping a RAT

No, it doesn't void the warranty. But we ask that you be fair. If you decide you don't like the stripped knife then that's your problem, not ours - same with guys convexing edges, modifying handles, etc. Sure, you could purposely break it and we'd send you another one, but then you would have to live with your conscience :D

Like we have posted on our site, our warranty is "no questions asked" but we just ask people to be fair to us when it comes to this. And guess what...99.9% of the people are. To date we have replaced exactly 3 knives total. None of them were for broken knives.

Jeff, other than rust and staining, are there any negative affects to stripping the coating off? What about rusting underneath the micarta?

Thanks for the reply to my warranty question. I definitely would be "fair". I like the looks of my RC4, I just would like a less tactical look for a hunting blade.

If you strip the blade then you will get rust under the Micarta since it will most likely absorb some moisture and hold it there.

if you are set to strip the coating may I suggest leaving the coating under the handle for protection and just strip the blade only .

Jeff, what happens to the knives that get returned? Do they get touched up and put onto the market, or are they discarded?

We have had 3 warranty replacements total. We let the customer keep the bad knives on two of them and the other one that was sent back is now my personal RC-4.

One of the replacements was due to a knife that the customer said was bent when he received it. He tried to straighten it and broke the knife. The other two were due to the customer not liking the finished sharpening of the knife.

But to answer your question. Our policy on returns is to keep the returns with minor faults as personal users or as giveaways to friends. They will never be fixed and go back out as a "first-run" knife.

I can't remember who it was, but I know a member (or two) here has stripped their R.A.T. knife. There should be a thread in this forum section. I'll see if I can find it.
