I would like to get a custom knife. I don't much about them. I do know that the Sebenza is probably the highest quality custom folder under $400. Can someone suggest some other makers with similar quality and price. Any help would be appreciated. I am interested mostly in folders.

nenofury,
The Sebenza is not considered a custom folder.
There are a lot of good custom makers that are in the $400-$450 range.Good luck on your search.

I agree with nifrand about the Sebenza. Good quality knife but not custom.
It is not too hard to find good customs in the $400 range but it would be easier to give you some guidance if we knew what type of folder interests you.

For $400 you should be able to get a very nice custom folder. But you should look around and see what's available and mabye decide on the style or maker you are interested in.

Here are some links to dealers specializing in custom knives - these sites listed all have plenty of knife pictures from many different makers, so you can get a better idea of what you want: http://www.arizonacustomknives.com/index.htm

Here are links for some popular makers who specialize in folders, including some of my favourites:

Tom Anderson
Hand Crafted Knives

There are a lot of good makers these days.
I can vouch for the following as being tops in fit/finish from either ownership or handling at knife shows:

Kit Carson
JW Smith
David Broadwell (see LDC-107 at Robertson's)
Joel Chamblin
Bob Terzuola
Darrel Ralph

There are other good ones, just can't vouch from my own personal experience (Munroe, Chew, RJ Martin, Mayo, Anderson)

Anyone that Les Robertson has make an LDC series knife is at least "very good" or better.

Chris Reeve's are considered production knives, but are of finest fit/finish at the price point or double.

If you want something from Elischewitz or Crawford, I very much recommend you buy from them at a knife show after having handled a bunch of knives prior.

Neno, I second Tom Anderson of www.andersoncustomcutlery.com. he has stuff on bladeart.com, knifeart.com, etc. I got to go over to his shop and we talked knives for 6 hours. he knows his stuff and the things he makes are awesome. he pays attention to all of the details. His folders are solid and stout and feel great in that hand. yes, i got to see a few of them, and wished I had the $$ to buy some

Steve Corkum tells me that he is currently working on a new folder. I'm not sure what his time schedule for production is.
