ive done a search on here and there is alot of talk about the locking levers having a bit of play in them and rattle about a bit , from what ive read i think this is normal but im a bit more concerned about the pin or rivet that holds then to the frame is strong enough . Anyone have one fail yet ?
Aso anyone know why some leatherman pliers are marked LEATHERMAN USA and others LEATHERMAN TOOL even on the same models

thanks

i have a buddy who uses his supertool 200 hard in the oilfields. he has not had any problems. i don't really care for the rattle myself, so i will stick with the old style supertool as my heavy duty user.

Thanks pipedreams , im starting to get used to the locks now and they are quite useful . The blades are still very tight but should have it worked in soon.

I emailed leatherman regarding why some of there tools are marked LEATHERMAN USA and others LEATHERMAN TOOL and i got a quick reply
Regarding your first question about the Leatherman USA and Leatherman Tool. Due to a California law, it has been necessary for our company to remove the Leatherman made in the USA from all of our tools, because a few of the parts are made outside the US, or the sharpening of the knife blades are done outside of the U.S. The California law states that all items need to be manufactured in the U.S. in order for our product to say made in the USA. To avoid manufacturing duplicate items, we now have a product that reads only Leatherman Tool. It is the same fine product as always and only very few of the items are produced outside our factory.
. so i guess that answers that one .

A little off tangent....
All this talking about the new 200 got me motivated to get off my kiester and check it out. I've had an original supertool since they came out and just love it. It corrected all the faults I found with the original leatherman. Boy was I impressed with the 200. Really so much more comfortable it was even a comparison. I also like the levers. Rattling isn't an issue because I when my plastic insert for the sheath/tool adapter broke I made one out of sheet metal and my tool now rattles anyway.
Only problem I have is my knife store wants 80 buckeroos for the 200. So, I'll have to wait a while.

im really pleased with mine rdg the screwdrivers are a lot better than my vic swisstool ,although the swisstool is a VERY strong multitool .Trouble is that they are so expensive here in the uk ,the typical high street price is £85 which i think is nearly twice what you guys pay .

Bob, are you in the US? If so, Target has carried the 200 for a while at $54.99 US (leather sheath).

Thanks for the Target info. I've got one within a couple miles, I'm going to go check it out.

Target had the 200 for $49.99 in the store. So now I have a new 200. Really like it, my old supertool will go on reserve status now. Thanks for the heads up.

Yep, that's their everyday price! Now if we could only get them to cary Spyderco

N2 ;) :D

well done rdg glad you got it for a good price ,have you got a tool adapter for it as i find it really usefull . Also do you guys prefer the leather sheath or the nylon one .i have got both now and tend to swap and change .

I bought a tool adapter when I got my original Super Tool. I use it as a stubby screwdriver most of the time. I also greatly expanded the inventory of bits for it. I have hex bits, torx bits, the square ones (Robertson or something like that), as well as a number of additional sizes of phillips and straight screwdriver bits. Also have a bit that has a 1/4" socket adapter. I've used the supertool and the tool adapter to work on everything from cars to computers. Use it alot on the orthopedic ward.
I was using the new 200 tonight on the ortho ward and just love how comfortable the grip is. Still like the original one, but the 200 is a definate improvement. Wish I'd had these things 30 years ago when I was doing extractions from wrecked cars.

I tested 4 new 200s this morning and one old beat up one. All of the levers have a little play. The beat up one still locks tight.

Personally, I prefer the original Super Tool. The locks on the 200 bites into my hand.

Thanks for the reply Frank , the levers just felt a bit strange at first and didnt look very strong but now ive played with them and got used to them i really like the way they work. Also no one has got back to me to say they have had the levers fail on them so i guess there up to the job.
