Surefire 6P....?

I got a Fenix brand light and didn't like it too much, it was bright...just too bulky...

I wanted more of an EDC light. One that I can throw in my pocket with USA stamped on it. I saw surefire's 6P to be just that. I has a very decent light out-put, but it runs out faster then the fenix light. The deal I saw came with 6 123's and free shipping for $62.00.

It almost sounds too good to be true. Is there anything thing I should know about this light? Or Surfire in general? Let me know. Thanks.

Surefire's great. Check out malkoff devices, 17670 lithium ion batteries will drop in the body and the LED dropin will accept the low voltage. If you don't want LED Lumens factory makes incandescent Lamps for 3.7 volts. (I just hate primaries because once they are gone they are gone, and then you pay more money.)

Which Fenix light did you have? The 6P isn't pocketable IMO, and I would consider it bulky. I also think it performs better with aftermarket lamp assemblies, such as Malkoff or Dereelight, and that will cost you more money.

For a more EDC able size, I'd look at the E2DL, or E1B backup.

Surefire makes great lights though, and they have a fantastic warranty and customer service.

Surefire is as good as it gets, I have trusted thier products for awhile now, the 6P is a large light though, too big for pocket carry, the E1B/E1 are great daily carry lights

Never looked at fenix's smaller lights?
The PD and LD models are a great size with good ouput and great runtimes, pd20 maybe?

fenix makes smaller and brighter pocket lights than does surefire.

however, i have found surefire products to be far more durable. where they lag behind is the led technologies. for some reason, surefire has been slow to adopt them on a widespread basis.

there is an led drop in conversion for the 2 cell series, of which the 6p is a part. you will get higher lumens and increased runtime with the led bulb. no brainer, imo.

surefires are also at least double the price for comparable products.

i like the fenix and nitecore lights, but their circuit boards are more complicated, and have variable outputs and lighting capabilities. some like these features, but for me it just means more to go wrong. what they lack in durability, they more than make up for in technology.

as per usual, there are factors that determine what light is best for you (or me). in general i prefer surefire's products. simple and tough.

I've had my TK10 going strong for 2 months or more now, its kept up and used all the features its supposed to fine, that said, I do like surefires E2DL a little more, its supposedly has a lesser output, however from pictures I've seen that beam pattern is tight and compares to that of the TK10, Over all, If i could go back I would get the E2DL, but I am happy with the TK10 as the flood was something I wanted over a single beam pattern.

Get a surefire U2 and a Leef 18650 body, you're set, rehcargable's primaries, levels you name it it's got it.

An evil Chi-com Fenix P2D is my everyday light. Carries just fine in the pocket. It's not a tactical light. I'm not concerned about it saving my life, thwarting cannibal ninja monkeys, acheiving world peace, or changing my oil. I do like that it gives me lightweight, compact, variable illumination for those occasional daily tasks that might need it, though.

I have Surefires which are great lights for their intended purpose. They're too big for my jean pockets, though, and I don't normally carry belt pouches. They also eat batteries quicker.

i would look at the surefire LED stuff before i bought an old 6P, my favorite surefire is my L4 FWIW.

i also edc a fenix E2D-CE w/a leef clickie on it and really like it also.

What Fenix do you have? The TK10 shouldn't be bulkier than the SF 6P. I wouldn't consider the 6P as an EDC. Also, it has no hard anodizing like Fenix or the better Surefires, just standard.
If you buy a Surefire, better get an LED-model. Maybe the G2L, it's grip must be great in cold weather. The incans suck the batteries dry within an hour, also the brightness drops quite fast.
Surefire has some models that are better suited for EDC, like the L1, E1L or E1B. But so has Fenix.
Surefire has nicer quality, but if you carry it on a daily basis, that's not going to last. I consider my lights as tools and they look totally used. :D

get a G2L, Same size as the 6P and 6PL. but lighter and cheaper and will take skuffs and drops and still look newer. Use in cold weather is more comfortable, though if it's really cold gloves will be used anyway. There are color options, I like the black for EDC and Yellow for my Go bag, easier to locate in a dark bag, or if you set it down.

I've even seen on CandlePowerForums where folks have taken the yellow ones apart and used Rit Dye to make orange ones.

If innapropriate, Mods I appoligize, and will understand if link is removed.

People have used the Novatac clips on them for pocket carry, I have a clip from a Streamlight Scorpion on my black one. I have a Nite Ize Lite Holster Stretch for my yellow one. It's clipped to my bag.

I think the SF G2L is one of the best bargins in lights today. Upgradeable, durable, cheap enough to play around with. I really enjoy mine.

I had a l2d. I liked it, but it was made in China, I'm not going to lie it was a great light, but I want to try Surfire now.

The surefire looks better too, and is perfect for the ammount of use it's going to get.

It seems like a nice deal they have for it too.

Ditto

Surefire 6p - great tactical light, reliable but to get the most out of it you need the aftermarket mods such as Malkoff dropins (2 to 3 X improvement - no joke) and possibly a button switch - I have. That would be my set if my life depended on a tactical and comfort and cost were secondary

As linked ealrier candlepower forums can give you more info on the 6p and alternatives than you can possibly want - I literally spent weeks looking before I ordered mine

However Even on the recent weekend camping it kept jumping out of my pocket as it was not really comfortable in Jeans. But is what I grab for investigating things that go bump in the night at home

However for general use there are a lot of others from LED upgraded mini maglite which are much more pocket freindly to all the others you will find on candlepower.

These days for general purpose I have agreat singell AA reviewed on candle that came from China and the photon Micro II on my key chains

6P's are great, very simple and one of the best lights you will own. Don't waste your money with cheap drop-in module's you need a Malkoff. Malkoff drop-in's are the only ones that go in my surefire's for good reason.

Be carefull surefires are addicting :D

The only performance things that put me off getting a surefire 6p was the odd batteries (which are difficult to come by in quantity and quite expensive over here), the fact that my ideal was an LED model (which is available, but costs more) and the shorter runtime. run time seems to be more to do with how surefire measure it, than actual performance. past these problems, most of which are more to do with personal preference, or geographical position than problems with the light, it seemed like a very good bit of kit far as I could tell.

my other problem was cash, but that's not a case of it being over priced, more me being decidedly under-funded.
