swiss champ opinions?

I think its a great idea, if you can carry it with any degree of comfort. Victorinox makes some of the finest knives around, so quality and usefulness are definately there. However, the Champ is big. It is probably not one you want loose in the bottom of your pocket. If you are going to wear it on your belt, then you will probably be fine with it.

In that size range, I prefer the Cyber Tool 41, which has a nice selezione of screwdrivers. Of course, there's a version of the Champ that has the Cyber Tool's screwdriver package, too, but that thing really is huge.

If you have a way of carrying it comfortably, go for it. V-nox makes an outstanding product.

I carry one on my belt in a leather snap sheath daily. I find the tools and magnifying glass very handy for innumerable tasks.

I've carried, and still carry, a Swisschamp despite trying other, smaller SAK's. I've carried mine for about 10 years and it has held up far beyond my expectations. The size does take some getting used to. Once pass that, it makes a great and tough edc. My original has been battered and used for all sorts of tasks. I just sent it back to Victorinox for repair and got a brand new one in its place. IMHO, the knife has a lot of bang for the buck, easy to maintain and sharpen, too.

I've carried one for years now and find it a very comforting companion in both the city and woods. ;)

hey guys i got a swiss champ today and holy smokes its loaded with tools i couldnt be happier with the build quality i carried it on my belt quite comftorbly today thanks for your input guys ;)

Another thing to consider is the fact that most people quail at the sight of a knife (especially post 9/11) A Victorinox is so ubiquitox and non threatening that you can get away with so much more than you would with a Benchmade or especially a Spyderco with its rad looks and serrated blades.

Without a doubt the Swisschamp is a great knife and gives you a few more options than a Leatherman Wave.

SwissChamp is great. By now I used all tools on it! It is also interesting knife to look at when you have nothing to do. There are a few things I don't like to do this knife, however: it has too many tools that it is not comfortable to clean it. And it does not allow to be opened by one hand. Therefore I have another knife primarily for cutting. Also, it has not very strong pliers, but when I compared it with my friend's Leatherman Wave, it was cool to see that I can do more useful things with SwissChamp than he could with his Wave! May be I will get some small pliers in future, but in reality small pliers often are more useful than large ones- I fixed bags while travelled, glasses, Wave is too big for these jobs.

I've carried the Vic SwissChamp since before it was born (used to be just the "Champion" in an earlier incarnation), IMHO you can't go wrong!! Has worked for the last 30+ yrs.

Has anyone tried the Work Champ, the locking-blade equivalent to the Swiss Champ? I have an Outrider, which is like a Rucksack but with scissors, and it's much preferable to my old non-locking SAK, in terms of handle size, ergonomics, blade and saw size, and the locking blade.

Well if no one's going to say it I will. I love Victrinox knifes. I think they are just awesome. I bet that whatever tools you need in a pocket knife they have a model thats just perfect. That said, Do you really need the magnifying glass that doesn't work very well? Being an avid camper I've even tried to use it to start a campfire to no avail. Personally I usually carry one without that which leaves room for another tool that I use more and isn't so bulky in the hand.
I hope this helps and doesn't dissuade you from it because at the very least it's kinda cool to have the one with the most tools.

All my magnifying glasses on my Victorinox knives work wonderfully. I've used them to look at circuit boards, inspecting my watch innards and doing the emergency-splinter removal from my daughters hand. Now granted I've not used it successfully to start a campfire, but who goes into the woods with only a magnifying glass as their main source of fire making? (That was a general statement, not directed to APBT.)

The only drawback is that usually Victorinox pairs their tools together. Usually the phillips screwdriver (not the t-bar one found in the corkscrew) is paired up with the magnifying glass. So by removing the magnifying glass, you might end up losing a tool versus gaining one.

I love my Swiss Champ, Champion (current EDC), Soldier, Tinker and others. Can't beat the SAK for the price.

I keep mine in a cubby above the windshield. It has many items i use that my LM doesnt. Its easy to get to and a good compliment to the LM.(add) I put a carabiner type clip on it in case i want to carry it for a short time.

Just bought a Swiss Champ from Amazon, and received in the mail this afternoon. I'll I can say is that it is a jewel. I've got a multiples of(Leatherman, SOG, Gerber), but I think I'm going to like the Swiss Champ more. Kind of a "gentlemens" multitool. Very useful tools, and it appears to be very well made. I get tired of carrying the full-size multitools on my belt, and even though the Swiss Champ is bigger than my regular carry knives, I think it will carry pretty well in a pocket. I know it will carry much more comfortably than the multitools. $45 from Amazon, seems like a nice price for such a neat knife.

In regard to the magnifying glass, I was surprised at how well it worked. I was also a little surprised to see it made entirely of plastic, because in the pictures it appears to be a darker material surrounding the lense. Still, I was pleased with how well it worked.

I have had one for 12 years and have never had a problem with it but even though i have a belt pouch for it i have never carried it... It stays in my backpack and gets a lot of use on camping trips.

Seems like I've been carrying some version of the Swiss Champ since I've been carrying a wallet, starting with the Champ and now the Swiss Champ XLT. I carry it vertically in my back pocket next to my wallet.

They have all been fantastic, I can't go a day without using it for something. If I could just find a crazy deal on the XAVT...I'd need a bigger back pocket or smaller wallet.

i have a swiss champ in my bug out bag, along with a spyderco CF BG-42 military, but for edc uses i prefer the swiss tool spirit, which has a perfect pliers and you can access the implements w/o having to open the pliers first
