Hey everybody!

this was a custom knife for a paratrooper freind i have.

anyway.. this is a knife i designed in autocad (my first) and the guys at work cut it out of 1/4" 5160 on the water-jet.

specs:
14.25" oal
8.5" blade
1.5" wide
differentially hardened 5160 blade with hard etch and epoxy coating
natural canvas micarta scales
brass pins
kydex sheath with tek lok

it started out with green scales, but i messed them up.. so i had to use tan. i heavily etched the blade with a mixture of gun bluing and acid, after bead blasting it. However, the trooper wanted it BLACK...so i used a bake on epoxy with a textured matte finish.

this is my first tactical knife, so feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanks so much

FWIW....It's a good looking tool for a ground pounder, but a mistake for
a jumper. Anything(especially that big) extra hanging from the web (or leg)
could easily get caught in risers.

hey
thanks guys.. yeah it isnt a very original design, and while the guy i made it for is a jumper, i dont think he was planning on jumping with the knife. he is a paratrooper by trade, special ops by function. and it was a free knife.. so.. he wasnt going to complain.. however, it was kinda an experiment as he is going to give me adivice on how to improve it.
thanks so much!

Wow!! Can I do that too, on your next project? :p

Nice knife, by the way. :D

I like it, and think you did a very good job. I actually prefer your original finish to the black epoxy. My only criticism is that the handle looks a bit long.

More importantly, I hope it serves your friend well. Godspeed to him.

I like it well enough. The handle looks proportioned enough to me, but it may just be the pictures.

thanks guys!
i would have made the handle a tad smaller too, it is like 6" at least. but that was a stipulation by the trooper.. he has huge hands.

and i would have to agree about the finish. i liked the blued and acid etched finish better too. the next one will be like that. i have updated the cad file, and wil hopfuly cut out a couple more soon.

critiques? what would you change?
thanks so much
~Chris
