Hi All,

I am posting my complaint here, hoping that someone can give me an e-mail address to a person within the Tactical Knives Magazine- other than to their so called customer support department. Since they seems to be completely out of their mind!!!

26th April this year, I subscribed online for 1 year Foreign Subscription. They where very fast to come back with a subscription confirmation (since it’s automatic!). They where also very fast to take my VISA card payment! Now the problems started!

I sent Tactical Knives Magazine an e-mail, highlighting that I want the subscription to start with the July’03 issue. Then no reply for a very long time. Then after a few reminders, I got a very rude reply! :(

3 months after my subscription and VISA card deduction- I got an envelop with the May & July issues! I sent an e-mail, informing the so called Customer Support that May issue I had already and my subscription should start with the July issue. I never got a reply on that e-mail!

20 days ago, I sent Tactical Knives Magazine an e-mail asking where my September and November issues are!?? Today I got a reply saying that my subscription started with the Nov’03 issue and runs through Sept’04!!!

Today, I am 3 issues behind in my subscription- the September, November and January issues!!! And judging of the reply I just got, they seems not to even realize that there is a problem to fix here!!!!!

I always considered Tactical Knives Magazine to be a great magazine. But that feeling is fast going away now, because of the worse customer support I have ever experienced!!!! What a mess!!!

Please advice if there is any normal person within Tactical Knives Magazine, I could contact to get my outstanding issues. An e-mail address would be great!

Thanks and Regards,

Jorgen

Wellll, you are having a very common problem.

It is my FIRM belief that Tactical Knives will not start your subscription until you raise bloody hell with them. I guess they just plan on pocketing all the money and not coughing up the mags until somebody complains. It took me for-freakin'-ever to get my subscription started, and all my issues are late. I ALWAYS see them in the store at least 2 weeks in advance.

My only advice to you is to bug 'em until you get results. After all, you paid for a product - you should not be satisfied until you get it in a timely manner.

Try doing a search on this rag and you will get TONS of evidence that they have piss poor customer service, period. I will NOT be renewing my subscription, and at $7 an issue (what the hell?!?!? $7 an issue and there's not even 1 naked chick in there! Who the hell do they think they are?!!!! IMO $7 is WAYYY over the top for a knife mag.) I will not be buying it at the store either.

Good luck :(

With service like that and at $7.00 an issue, I doubt they'll be in business much longer. I swear every month there are more ads and less articles than the month before. I will not purchase a subscription because of all the horror stories I've heard. I'll go to Barnes & Noble, read it and put it back on the shelf. Of course, no one ever buys it at our local store so I doubt B&N will carry it much longer.

Bring back "S.W.A.T. Fighting Knives" Magazine!!!!

Something like that happened to me, I paid with a money order and then a month and a half later I see it on the newstand and called them up and asked wtf wheres my magazine. The guy gave me some lame answer about checks having to clear and I was like noooo I sent in a money order almost 2 months ago and I want my magazine like now. I hung up on that moron and called again asking for the tactical knives section/department/whatever I then explained everything all over again and they sent me my magazine first class and havent had any problems with them since. My suggestion is to call and rip them a new one. This will be the last time I subscribe to Tac Knives.

$7 an issue is way too much, I don't care how many chicks you have. Not to mention they are MOSTLY ads. Half of their magazine in the back is ads.

Oh well, one of these days someone will realize this and make a good magazine for tactical knives.

I don't personally like the other knife mags because I don't care for the fantasy stuff, classics like trappers and stockmans, or even really customs, unless they are "tactical" in nature.

Ah well...

Bitch all you guys want to, but I STILL think that Tactical Knives is the best knife magazine out there. I've been a subscriber for somewhere around the past 3 years and I've never had a problem with them, or getting MY magazines "on time".

Hi again!

Interesting to know that I am not alone! ;)

And yes, I also think that the content of Tactical Knives Magazine is GREAT! But the people running it and their customer support sucks!!! As soon as I think about this magazine, I see in front me a bunch of lazy people taking the subscribers money and buy beer for it. Then they sit there and play computer games and don't care a sh_t if the subcribers get their magazine or not! When they once in a while reply to an e-mail, they don't even know what's about- because the have been drinking too much beer! That's the way I imagine the people working there after my very long and bad experience!

I will try HarrisMags@aol.com- but will probably not help since the same people sit there and ignore the mail. Any e-mail address to the owner of the whole company? If not, I sincerely hope that Steven Dick jump in here and explains what his people are doing over there!

Is it just me, or do even the knife reviews seem like paid endorsements?? I've heard of too many problems with that mag to give it any credit. All the knife info I need is right here, provided by real world users who aren't trying to suck up to advertizers.

i gues i have been lucky, 3+ yrs and no probs, imho tac knives is the only mag for afficianados (sp??lol)of tac knives, i just dont care for blade/etc, certainly dont subscribe. i do subscribe to several other mags from the tac knives people (ie combat handguns/GWLE) so maybe they have my addy town pat.

do they give fav reviews to advertisors?? i dont know, certainly no more than the others, i dont really trust much i read in mags anymore, esp gun mags, but tac knives is no worse than the rest of them imho. not as bad as guns/ammo, in 30 years i dont think i have ever seen a critical review in the thing. one article in tac knives by van cook about cammilus maxx knives, i couldnt believe he thought the thumb studs/stops on the cuda maxx were for opening the knife vs the flippers, if true, imho he aint smart enought to be writing articles, my 12 yr old figured out how to open the thing w/the flippers, and he hadnt handled but 3-4 knives to that point, if van cook handled the thing and couldnt see how to open it, shame on him lol, it dont take a engineering degree to figure it out

I had nothing but problems with my domestic subscription to TN also. Out of a one year subscription, I only received two issues on time. The rest of the time I had to call and request a replacement copy. It seemed like I got the same customer service rep every time that I called. She finally told me that someone at the post office must be stealing my magazine!

As a true knife nut, ANY magazine that has to do with knives is OK by me. I do have to admit though, that I havent seen my Tactical Knives magazine lately, and I'm a subscriber.

I think they are all paid endorsements, at least all of their reviews seem that way. Ever notice that they always review a TOPS knife somewhere in the magazine? And they always recommend TOPS knives to their readers. Are there no other knife companies out there?

Again, please bring back "S.W.A.T. Fighting Knives"!

I have never bought knife magazines for the reviews. I read just about everything else, but I find the reviews next to useless.

It is pretty rare to find objective reviews in magazines which run ads for the same products they review, regardless of the products. I used to subscribe to a gun magazine that took no advertising, and it was the only gun magazine who's reviews I trusted.

About the only use for magazines like Tactical Knives is to find out the descriptions and specs on various knives. But given the price they are now charging for their issues, I'll save alot of money and look that information up online.

Harris Publications does have some serious customer service problems. I have never subscribed to Tactical Knives, but I was a Combat Handguns subscriber for several years. I had the same problems described in the previous posts. About half of the time, I had to call them to get a magazine. When it did come without my calling, it would arrive two weeks after all the bookstores and news stands had it. When I complained about the late mags I was told, "the stores aren't supposed to have them yet". EVERY store in town?!? I finally dropped them.

Not related to the original subject- but a reply to some comments about knife reviews in magazines. I would like to say it's up to the person reviewing a knife, to take the firm decision if he should give his honest opinion or just be nice in his article. It's a fact that a writer often receives the knife from the manufacturer/maker and therefore maybe he can end up feeling some kind of responsibility to "make everybody happy". In the end, it's up to each and every writer’s integrity to write was has to be said!

I have read some knife reviews in magazines, and after I bought the knife I have more or less agreed to everything in the review. So it's not all bad- not at all!!! ;) I have also seen private online comments/reviews of knives that suppose to be so good! But when I tried it, I found it be quite the opposite. So my advice is that you always do some solid research before you purchase any type of product! (Obviously I didn’t do my research about Tactical Knife magazine before I bought a subscription! :) ). And when you do your research, makes sure that your intended usage is in line with what the product was designed for!

I just wrote my first knife review and it was on the Camillus Cuda Talon. This review was published in the September issue of the Knifeforums Magazine. And I stand for every single word I wrote in that article- it's a great knife and a great knife material! But keep in mind that this article reflects my usage and my opinions. This doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone in the whole world also will come to the same conclusion! The only thing that counts how good a knife is, is how well it works for the person using it for whatever purpose! If you for example read my article, and your planned usage model is not even close to mine. Then the knife might not be suitable in your case…

I plan to hopefully write some more articles- and there will not all be positive! Someone has to tell the truth- right? ;)

B.J. Wallgren

A buddy of mine has a script that he won't renew for the same reasons. I leaf through his, but it's a waste of time much less money. Lots of these overpriced rags go belly up at THE most opportune time as part of their original buisness plan. Reviews are almost never independent, and it often seems like reviewers were paid to invent good platitudes. Cliff, don't quit your day job.
