Last night April and I had to have our very good friend Barney (our Great Pyrenees) put down. He would have been 13 soon. He had a good run. Its been hard to work today even though I thought at first it would be a good distraction and I suspect we are going to take some time to recover from having to say goodbye to the best dog we have ever known.

So, with that said tearfully, please excuse any delays for some work I have here. I may not get back to the shop for a few days until I feel like I can see good enough to do it and am back to myself. Been going through some kleenex lately if you catch my drift. These pets are always great until the day you have to say goodbye. Unfortunately I'm dealing with that currently. For now I'll be trying to find some distractions that are safer than working around equipment that can hurt ya.

Thanks for understanding. Hug your dogs. You never know.

I am sorry to hear that Steve. You need some time off. I am sure anything you have can wait a few days. SORRY. Kevin

Sorry for your loss, rest up, work will always be waiting on you, you need a break every once in a while.

GOD BLESS YOU STR. I had to put my beloved Jezzie a wienaraimer down on Jan. 3, 2005 and know the pain you feel. My Jezzie was 13 years and 9 months. I cried like a baby. All the best.

had to put our 15 year old Golden down a couple of months ago . Ya got me needing a waterproof keyboard again. No rush on what I just sent you - have plenty of knives to try out in the mean time.
One old dog trainer I knew years ago had a opinion on the short lives of out best freinds - "Well - they are God's perfect creatures - if they lived longer we just wouldn't be able to bare loosing 'em".
Know you lost a great cat just a little while ago - have no idea why these kinds of things just seem to come in a wave.

I understand. Pets are something else. You don't realize their lives are not as long as ours and when they go, it's quite a lost. Take care.

Steve,
I have been hanging around here for a couple years. I have read many of your posts, but not sent many myself. You have impressed me as one of the good guys and I am sorry to hear about your loss. A good pet gives soo much and asks for soo little. They are true friends and a painful loss when they must go.
Take care,
Mark from Alaska

I love puppies, old dogs are like a fine wine though, they just get better with age. Prayers for you, it is tough.

I hope you recover soon. I heart was broken many times from loosing many dogs in my life time. I know how you feel.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

I would take off as much time as needed. Had to put down my 12 year old lab a few years ago. Its hard trying to find something to distract you from it. Couldn't seem to get away from thinking about it. I'd drink a beer and have a smoke and sit outside(if its warm) when it was me. helps a bit.

Been whittling on the porch out back to occupy my time. Made a couple standard style pocket clips and a low rider today finally. Can't say I was really into it though. Kind of hard as you say, to break old habits though. Get up in the morning to take care of the pets as usual, feeding the dogs was one chore. Tried going to feed the one I just lost this morning and caught myself doing it. Brought out an OMG! you know? Probably be like that for a bit but I'm managing better today than yesterday. Time is my friend right now.

I'll be fine. I've still got my Saint Bernard (Daisy) here keeping me company but I catch her looking for Barney all the time also. We're managing it together for now.

Thanks again guys.

That always makes it harder for me. Trying to explain to the other dog where their friend is. Their isn't much you can do but try to find a few minutes of peace and enjoy it. Your other dog should help. All I had was a lousy cat to help me out. It would be puke, glare at me and hide. I mean damn I pay the bills around here, you'd think he'd come and say hi to me when I come home. I tried to tell him to stop being so paranoid like someone was out to get him but he didn't listen. Not my fault he has to poop in a box.

Cats are like roomates. Sometimes stinky bad ones at that. Still I like the golden male and two maine coon females we have currently but they only give attention when they want to not when you want to give it to them. Then they are like put out by it. Usually its when I'm in the middle of typing, watching TV or trying to work on 'bedroom priveleges' with the wife that they decide its time to insist on some attention. Typical of cats I think. :D

I never cried like I did when I lost my beagle. The unconditional love of a dog is a true bond and you will always remember the good times.
