As you have probably heard rumors, Bob and I have been working together on putting Talonite blades in the Carnivour, with Bob doing most of the work.

This is closer and closer to becoming a reality. We dont have an exact timetable when they will be available, and dont have anything priced as of yet. So far, this will be a semi custom knife and and will probably be offered be offered with different handle materials. What do you think we ought to put on these? I have in mind, Mammoth Ivory, Mammoth Bone, Snakewood, Mother of Pearl, Jigged Bone in the various colors, etc, etc. Of cource if one wanted one in G-10 that would be doable. These will be sold through REKAT. The combination of Talonite and the very very good rolling lock should make a winner of a knife!

I like carbon fibre or, more classy, steel bolsters and bone scales. Just a thought.
I like your and REKATs willingness to experiment!

Great idea! I like your handle choices, though most of them tend to be expensive. As a result, I'd like to have a handle material that still looks classy and distinctive but isn't quite so expensive. To me, that means micarta in some color other than black. Inexpensive, easy to work, attractive, and plenty tough!

'course, if you could do something like Snakewood or a nice burly wood like Thuya for anything close to what micarta would cost, go fer it!

Great idea on the handle materials. Why not offer any of the ones listed since it is sort of a custom after all. Would make each one even rarer. How does that sound for a collector piece?

Handle choices? So nice of you to ask. I'm with Joe -- how about green canvas micarta.

Rob,

I think you know I love natural handle materials... good sambar stag or big horn sheep, mammoth ivory, stabilized birds eye maple to snakewood to bocote to cocobolo. The key to me is the quality of the individual slabs and how the salient nature of each material flows with the design lines of the particular knife they're affixed to. Woods seem to provide more quality pieces grain-wise than comparable quantities of horn type stuff. With that in mind, I'd defer to you to select a wood whose texture and grain augments the lines of the carnivore best

I am of two minds.

In the natural materials catagory, bald1 summed the nature of things well. I would lean toward cocobolo.

But there are some great carbon fiber patterns out there as well.

Flip a coin, or get both...

Well, some good suggestions here, the Carbon Fiber plumb slipped my mind, that would be an excellent choice. JD, your suggestion for bolsters is good, but have to see how that will work with the mechanism, a guy could get real trick and go with Ti bolsters, bone or Sambar Stag, nice wood as Bob and stjames say, or plain ol micarta as Joe says!

Bob is gonna kill me for bringing this up! ha ha ha.

Keep in mind the more expensive the material the more pricey the knife......

Carnivour...talonite...mmmmmm....

Handle materials? I'm just looking for something that won't slip when your hands are wet. I'm easy to please

I own an AFCK, and I love the secure feel offered by the G10 scales. As long as the handle material is that 'grippy,' I'm cool with it.
