The Tactical 110 in the last BCCI letter got me thinking.
How about a Tanto point 110?!??!? :-) Not a fan of tanto's but think it would be neat!

Sorry but I believe you just made a whole lot of buck fans shake their heads. i think you will find that the answer is no. If you give a 110 a tanto blade, it ceases to be a 110.

Smh. It would no longer be a 110. I don't even think it would be a good knife if you put a tanto in a 110 frame. I think the cut would be to ackward.

I only have 1 tanto blade and took it to the belt sander and turned it into a skinner. Tanto blades have no redeeming qualities as far as I am concerned.

i'd buy one. i think a lot of people would just for the fact that its something different. a 110 with a tanto. why not? we have 110's now with holes in the scales, carbon fiber, pocket clips you name it.

so my take is that everyone would be ok with it as long as they didn't call it a 110. sheesh

Tanto blades are great for woodworking and carpentry. They excell in push cutting .

I made one once. First try at a grind. Just wanted to do something different. (I cracked stamping it (pre heat treat :) ) so never got used, only bolted in and manipulated) The 110 is such a great, USA made, affordable starting point for modifications, if you wreck one trying something, its not a huge loss.
So I agree with: Why not??

If you want to a tanto called 110 that's fine. Call it whatever ya like. All my tantos have a comfortable cut w/ a straight handle. I just think the curve on a 110 handle will just make for an ackward cut.

TANTO 110!!!!???

Good God!!!!

I think the drop points suck.

Now you want me to consider a TANTO???!!!

I need a nap!

:D

The 110 is a "Folding Hunter", and with a tanto blade this knife wouldn't skin a thing. I don't care for the tanto blade. It looks and works well on a sword but doesn't do it for me on a knife.

Seems I read somewhere that the tanto point came about as a way of using broken swords.

Maybe Buck should start putting tantos on these hundreds of broken-tip 110s they have coming in all the time.

:D

A tanto would look strange on a 110. I'd imagine that if you used a traditional Japanese tanto the tip would still have a decent-ish belly to it and it might not look quite as jarring as the Americanized tanto does...but then you'd have a Japanese style blade in a classic American (and very western) handle.

And.......as somebody else said before.......people would buy them.

Why, I don't know.

I guess some are always looking for something new, different and even.......bizarre.

:D

Really? I never heard that. I knew the tanto's tip and profile is used for penetration. Even though it is a cutting tool, keep in mind a sheepfoot is a cutting tool. The whole profile of the blade and the double angle of the tip reinforces it and makes it an awsome stabbing weapon.
The tanto's strong point and straight lines has helped it find its way into the tactal/rescue relm. A hunting knife it isn't. A drop point does a lot better job.
