Tapered Tang Tutorial?

Has anyone done a tutorial on how to taper a tang? I started tapering a 1/4" thick tang last night and since I don't have the right equipment, I dished it out pretty bad. It's going to be a long road ahead to get it where it needs to be. A Craftsman 2x42 belt sander just isn't cutting it.

Thanks for the help guys. After another 1/2 hour on the disc sander and 3 hours of hand sanding with 220 grit SC paper, my tapered tang is finally all flat and all tapered! Man, my hands are sore, and I don't have any finger prints left! I really need a Burr King or something.
