I had been saving for a Glock 19 for my carry pistol, but I came across a really good price for the Taurus Tracker 357 in stainless steel. NOTE: I know that they are completely different. The Taurus would take on more of a role as a back up for hunting or a field gun for backpacking and/or fishing.

Any experience with this revolver or similar Taurus products? Accurate? Tight action? Good trigger and sights?

Also, who makes holsters for them?

Highly recommended!

I've owned a stainless steel Tracker M627 for a couple of years now and I love it! If I could own only one firearm this would be it. It's a great compromise handgun that does everything reasonably well.

The Tracker is compact and light enough to carry. 7 rounds of .357 Magnum can take most North American game and are formidable for defensive use. .38 Specials provide a low-power option too. The porting and grip make it comfortable to shoot. It is quite accurate out beyond 100 yards.

I would recommend something smaller and lighter for concealed carry. Otherwise the M627 is just about perfect. :D

I have never had the model you are refering to, But I had a Taurus 38 snub nose and I loved that, As well as a few PT92's. But when it comes to a full size 357. I love Colt's King Cobra. I had one will a 8" barrrel and Kick myself everyday for selling it. Either way you will get a nice firearm. The Tracker is a 7 shot? WOW I will have to check that one out in person.

If that's your taste you need to check out the Taurus M608. It's an 8-round .357 Magnum with a heavy barrel and a full-length ventilated rib. You can get it in 4", 6.5", and 8.75" barrels. The vents on the rib are designed to accept a scope mount. :D

Still, I prefer to step up to the larger magnums for really heavy use. The Tracker is an outstanding all-around performer in an oustanding all-around caliber.

i have owned some taurus revolvers and have found them to be serviceable but mediocre revolvers. quality seems to be on the upswing but resale still sucks and they dont excite me.

i prefer smiths personally.

why do you want the gun???? ... i constantly have to ask myself why i am considering a certain gun ... don't buy it just because it is a good deal ... i like to have a revolver around ... they always go boom and i enjoy shooting them... i recommend you save for the gun you want and then branch out.

Taurus seems to have undergone a transformation in the last five years or so. They used to be a competent but uninspired maker of licensed knock-offs. Recently they have become a major innovator in materials and design, particularly with revolvers. And their quality has improved to the point where they can compete with the best.

I am particularly impressed with the Tracker (M627) and the Raging Bull (M444). These are original designs that, in my opinion, shoot better than anything else in their classes. They are reliable, accurate, and amazingly comfortable.

I'm not going to put down Smiths. The Model 29 is one of my all time favorite firearms, but I like the current batch of Taurus wheelguns even better.
