Am I the only one who owns or even likes these bali's? I haven't read anything by anyone about these knives. I have the model with the solid brass skeletonized handles and the double edged blade. I also have a BM bali(economy model) with the zamak handles and the plastic inserts. Comparing the two, the Manila Folder is worlds better. There is absolutely zero blade play(not even a smidge) open or closed. It has a meaty blade and thick handles. I've never handled a custom BM, so I can't really compare them. I also have another Taylor with bone inserts and a spearpoint blade and is about half an inch shorter. Locks just a tight. I'm just curious why these knives don't get much attention. I know they've stopped importing them for a while, but I would guess it's still easy enough to get your hands on one if you wanted it. Does anyone else have an opinion on these?

Steve

I'll have an opinion in about a week or so, maybe less. Until then, I'm going to be sitting in the front yard next to the mailbox.

Taylor Manila Folders are very well-made and highly sought-after. They sell very high.

Don't forget, though, that they have a Manila-style latch while most balisongs have a Batangas-style latch. If you are acustomed to one and pick up the other carelessly, you may get bit.

I'm a Manila Folder fanatic.

I had one as a daily carry for about 12 years. I had to retire it a few months back because it was just DONE. It took me 12 years to break a pivot pin on it. The blade was about an inch and a half shorter. I had a friend weld a new latch at least 4 times.

Man, do I miss that Bali........

I still consider it the best production Bali I've ever laid my hands on......... Sharp, Wide, Heavy. Everything I like in a Balisong.

If they were to start making them again, I'd sell every Balisong I own and buy as many of those as I could. I'm dead serious!

Hope you like your up and coming Manila Folder Ramius. When I packed it up I had second thoughts but a deal is a deal

this is a superb knife and dare i say so it is the CLOSEST you can get to getting a Bali-song model 403 of the same bolade shape. There are slight differences but only from days of scrutiny.

And word has it that Master Clay's favourite Balisong is indeed a Manila Folder. This is probably the best 'non BM' bali you can get in my opinion.

The lask of attention is probably because all the attentiopn is spawned on BM

I just ran in from the mailbox to check the latest posts. I can't wait for my Taylor Manila folder to arrive! Come on... mailman!

After twenty years with a Batangas latch, I'm going to have to be REAL careful with a Manila latch. If you don't own stock in neosporin, I suggest you buy Buy BUY!

Full report on arrival!

I have a Taylor G968 that I love. I am also partial to the Manila latch. It gives me something to hold on to when I do a latch "drop" opening.

For prices check out Chuck's Shameless Commerce Division on his web site at

What I meant to say was, Those things are junk, and I'll take them ALL off your hands. Just so you don't embarrass yourself in public, of course.

......... yeah, nice "poker face".

And BTW Snipe, I guess my mail server must have been down the day you sent me that E-mail about having one of my favorite Balis up for sale........ Oh, you didn't send me one???

(Drum roll) It's here!

I am now the proud owner of a Manila Folder. Here are my first impressions:

1) It's built like a tank!
2) Manila... I know that means something.
3) Need more neosporin.

Seriously, though, it's a wonderful knife and it has reached a good home. I'm just happy I was quick on the draw when Snipe put it up for sale. I can see why Clay is fond of them. They manipulate very well... the extra weight and girth on the handles adds inertia and helps flow. Very smooth and forgiving.

Now repeat after me... "Keep latch handle in hand, keep latch handle in hand.."

Picked up a FHM at the same time... if only the Batangas folks would figure out the kicker to keep the blade from impacting the inside of the handle... I really like the genuine fit and feel of a handmade.

Glad to hear you like your knife. The Manila folder is my favorite too. That is until I receive my BM 42. I still don't know if I'll like it better. Probably though.

Well, we'll see if the BM42 lives up to expectations. I fully expect that it will, and am looking forward to getting mine soon.

One thing I've noticed is that Manila latchers seem to like opening in reverse grip, while Batangas latches seem to like opening in natural grip. At least that's the way it seems to work out. All openings work, or course, but blade orientation seems to work out better while observing the above rules.
