I get the glass cut by a glass shop. It cost me $1.50 a piece. I smooth and bevel the edges on my belt grinder. When doing this go slow to start or you will flake off pieces of glass. I start at 120 grit and work down from there.

i have never figured why any one would use glass on his platan if you just want it flatput a piece of flat steel on it with brass rivets when it gets worn replace it with a fresh piece if you want a nice bump free finish contact glue a piece of leather on it

Gerome, I use glass because it provides a very slick surface that stays flat with the exception on small chips at my workrest where profiling hammers at the glass. When I push my belts hard against the glass there is less friction between the glass and the backside of the belt when compared to steel. So I guess the benifit is a flat slick surface that can easily be replaced.
