I recieved my horseman framelock conversion, Ti Spacer, and lowrider clip about a week and a half a go. I just recieved my horseman yesterday.

My first impression of the horseman was not good. I'm used to larger knives such as my BM 710s, MT Halos, ZT300, and EKI cqc8. The horseman just felt too small and I'm guessing the lack of wieght kind of made it feel cheap and flimsy me(although I'm sure it wasn't)

I installed your conversion and other goodies. I had no problems with the install. I thought it was very straight forward. I love the anti-rolling stop pin Not only does this knife now look great in my opinion, but it also feel like a tank. Just really solid. The lock engages tightly at just past half the tang of the blade. I imagine this is normal. Either way I love it! I may sell the cqc8 just to get another horseman and convert it to have a back up or I may just convert the 8. I'll see how much the horseman's size grows on me these upcoming months.

Thanks again Steve. I hope your healing well.

Happy Thanksgiving

How far the lock moves in can vary from knife to knife. On a lock that thick you are guaranteed of a good reliable performer that won't defeat on you with it connecting enough to support the blade. Some of my initial fears with doing 'pop in' lock replacements involved whether or not all the factory models would be consistent enough to allow it. So far with most I have batted a pretty good average.

On my Horseman model the lock was earlier and it was tighter than described but so long as the blade does not exhibit vertical play I'd say use it and let it break in. Expect it to stick some at times as this takes place. See where you are then. If some play develops and since you are overseas and quite comfortable with disassembly its just a slight matter for you to tweak the springiness in the lock a bit (not much) and it will move in further if I didn't spring it enough to continue self correcting with wear. Once broke in it should get to the point it doesn't stick or at least doesn't stick bad.

For what its worth many of my Emerson folders bind and stick terribly from the factory. My frame lock 12 and 7 were two of the worst of the bunch and my 14 liner lock was horrible as well and even my old worn out Specwar from 1998 has stuck and binded terribly for years so it has more to do with the angle of the contact for how the blade was done than anything I did. The lock itself is cut to the same length and shape as the original and the vertical line or short cut of the lock cut out down where the detent ball sits is in the same place as the original so the lock actually connects just like the liner lock from the factory did other than thickness. But again the lock was cut out after being copied using the very first Horseman model mailed to me for the job as were all the others I've sold so far so there can be minor variance if yours is different from that first one by any amount but so long as its close enough to the same tolerances to still match up well enough to work I don't see why it can't do the job and perform well for you.

By the way. I like the Horseman better than the 8 myself. I've done 8 conversions a time or three though so thats always something to think about down the road I guess.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up that it arrived. I was just thinking about it today so its good to know.
