The ATR feels like a custom!

I can't tell you how impressed I am with the ATR.

I've seen pictures since they came out and it never really turned me on, but I got a chance to HANDLE one at the Spyderco booth at the PKA Denver Knife show a little over a week ago and it blew me away. I found a black one on the forums right away and bought that but it hasn't arrived yet and I picked up a stainless one today at the Spyderco Seconds sale.

They feel really smooth opening and closing like a custom knife. A lot of things about it feel like a custom - the feel and sound of the ball detent and the lock...

I was never too crazy about the compression lock either, but the COMPRESSION FRAME LOCK is really something else. I hope they use it more on other knives in the future. It would be unbeleiveable on a really beefey knife with a thicker blade and thicker handles scales.

I agree. I played with one briefly today. It had that feel. I would hold out for a titanium one, though. I just don't like stainless handles or scales that much.

I love frame locks. They're so functional. Not like the lock on the military which can be released with tight gripping. Tight gripping a frame lock just makes it lock up tighter.

Couldn't. I have that black one coming and they only had the Steel at the Spyderco sale. Actually, I never handled a titanium one. If I like the black one as much as this steel one I've been playing with this weekend, I may start hunting for a titanium one.
