Hi y'all,

I usually post good things about good people in this forum, but I today I have something else to report. A few weeks ago I contacted a man named "Ray" and purchased 3 Spydercos from him. He said he would ship them to me for inspection and then I was to have paid him. He was very insistant about this so I sent him my address and expected to receive the knives in a few days. (I should at this time mention he is located in Austria.)

Well It has been quite a while and still no knives. I have subsequently mailed him and have recived no response. I had intended to give one of the knives away as a Christmas gift.

Details of the exchange are located at the following link:

If anyone has any info one him please let me know. I am feeling more than a little guilty about posting this negative information.

I have done business with Ray on an extremely high dollar custom trade on both ends. The communication went well and the shipping went well. Perhaps he is out of town, but I don't want to speculate. I suggest a little more patience and hopefully it will work out. I hope I eased you mind just a bit.

For what it's worth, mailing knives outside of the U.S.A. has taken much longer then I expected. The knives were all received but, I wondered if they had been lost a while before I got the good news that they had been received.

John, I've sent knives out of country , that only took 5 days(Global Priority Mail)... but... I've also had them take almost a month. Alot of time they get slowed down in Customs.

It's hard to be patient when you have money invested and you've waited about 3 weeks or so .... isn't it?

Just a note I have had knives held up by customs. Knives I have sent and knives that I have bought. I have had to wait as long as 5 weeks and I was sure that something was amiss. So I would give Ray a chance, if I read he sent for your inspection without payment I would believe that is not the mark of someone with ill intent.

I've also dealt with Ray on several occasions. I've also had many email conversations with him, and he seems like a real "knifeophile". He was slow in sending something once, but it finally did arrive exactly as advertised. I would have no problems dealing with him in the future. Unless I've misread the post, it seems like he agreed to ship the knives BEFORE getting paid, which was pretty reasonable, considering that he's shipping overseas. (My apologies if I did misread it.)

I would keep trying to contact him.

Hi y'all,

You read it correctly he was to send me the knives prior to payment.

I never knew it sometimes took nearly a month to get things from overseas, most of the "stuff" I get from out of the country only takes a few extra days to arrive.

I will give him a few more weeks before writing it off as a lost cause.

Later,
John

Just FYI, I' ve had a transaction that dealt with a Canadian and it took just short of _2_ months to receive it from US Postal. I' m told Canadian service is real slow depending on geography and customs don' t help at all. Perhaps a bit more patience is needed but do continue to stay in contact with the other party.

I' ve also suggested several times in the past to post an "Attention ________" on the appropriate forums in an attempt to call the other partys attention without any unnecessary details. It has worked for me recently.

Yea I hate to down play your concerns but forget about slow overseas shipping. I just completed a deal with another forumite who sent a check out on the 8th of december. It was postmarked the 9th and I didnt recieve it until this past week. AFTER XMAS !! Almost 3 weeks. Did he send it from Tibet? No! Chicago !! and Im in NY. I think with enough energy I could have walked it over. Could very well be the season. Just trying to put your mind at ease.

Just to put things into perspective -

getting knives across the wide and deep ocean and past Israeli customs can take more than 2 months...

But having lived in a 3,000 year old city for the better part of my life makes one more patient..

I could fill this hard drive with international postal horror stories. Sometimes the mail goes through really fast, sometimes it takes forever. Simple as that. If the Postal Gods are smiling, all is well, if not, you're screwed.

Last Sept. I sent a M.O. from Ohio to NY,NY..
After 2 wks. the other party, a forum member,
said he hadn't received it. Now at this point, I was suspicious, and I'm sure the
other guy thought I was lying. I canceled the
deal and filed a claim with the USPS. After
60 days, I promptly received a reimbursement
for the "lost" M.O.. So, ya never know.

hi all,

sorry for the delay, i was extremly busy the last few weeks. JOHN i shipped the spydercos to you, fact is that i shipped 5 packages on 12/11/99 and at this time it seems that only one made it through. well i start to hate the postal office by now
