The best of the double edged knives?

There are many different dagger style knives on the market, and I was wondering if everyone had an opinion on what they feel is the best design out there, and why. Just a few to pick from off the top of my head..

Gerber MkII and MkI
Gerber Guardian
Cold Steel Peacekeeper models
Falkniven Garm
SOG Pentagon
Boker Appelgate/Fairbain
Ek Daggers

Granted some of those seem to be designed more as hide-out pieces, but they still have two full length, sharpened edges.

I know there must be a lot that I didn't mention, so feel free to pick one not on the list.

I like the Guardian. Though I don't own one, Id like to. I also like the look of the Garm. Right now, the only double edge blade I have is a Dalton Cupid.

I like this one. :)

The CRK's are definitely the cream of the crop. I have also always liked the EK cord wrapped pieces quite a bit. The problem I have with most of the pieces you mentioned are the fact that they are rubber/Krayton handled. Just don't like the stuff.

I agree with the Kathathu but I'm biased since I own one. Others worthy of mention: MT Nemesis/Dragon Slayer; upcoming Nemesis blade Tachyon; BM Kriss blade balisongs.

Off your list, I like the Boker Fairbairn daggers. I have several custom ones that I lilke better though.

My vote is for the following:

Gerber Mark II with cat's tongue and 5 degree cant and Newt Livesay's Company Knife (this one is pure wicked)

The Gerber MkII and the Boker A/F. I really liked the Boker.

I'd go custom if I ever got another dagger tho.

Triton & Lizardking, beautiful knives.

blademan 13, what do you mean by CRK. Chris Reeve Knives? Also, I have to agree with you about kraton or rubber handles. I've never had one fail on me, but I think there are better materials out there.

I've never seen the Randall models, where might I be able to find pics of them?

A.G. Russell Sting. I don't know which I like best the intregal or the micarta version.
They are working on comming out with a new version. Can't wait, hope it retains the basic lines of the originals tho.

The latest Blade Magazine (June 2002) has an article on some of the newer designs in tactical knives. They featured five different makers and asked each to build a forged tactical that could actually be carried most anywhere, was visually non-threatening and yet be effective. One of the makers was Terry Primos and this is what he made.

It's a hand forged 4" blade made from 1084. The blade is double edged with the main edge a conventional convex grind and the top edge a chisle grind. The differential temper line sweeps right up to the beginning of the top edge giving very good sharpening characteristics while maintaining the strength and flexibility needed in a tactical knife.

The handle is Thuyla Burl. This makes the knife seem far less threatening than the normal Black G-10 or Micarta. There is a swell at the end that really locks the knife in place in your hand in every position. Balance is right behind the guard and the guard is large enough to realy work without being so big that it hinders your draw or concealability. I've carried it in a custom belt sheath and in a cut down pocket sheath.

At $200.00 a copy (a little more to add a custom sheath) it competes with many of the production knives. In terms of value, I think that it's pretty hard to beat. You should at least check Terry's knives out.

Yay! My first post!

I got myself a Sog Pentagon, it’s OK, but I wouldn’t say fantastic, although I do find it versatile having both a full length serrated and fine edge. It certainly has it’s merits, but compared to some of the knives mentioned above I think it falls a little short.

Good luck choosing,
Hellz

First one is JW, second one is PH.

If i was actually going to buy one it would be more like a SOG pentagon than the knife i posted, actually i think it would be a falkniven Garm Fighter.
