Hi Everyone,

This site below has the best prices for Benchmade
that I have found anywhere. You can get a regular
42, 43, or 47 for $106.25. I just pre-ordered a 31
the other day for $81.25. These are real nice people
to deal with and they have great service.

Very nice folks, just ordered two 31's myself. Can't beat the prices!!!!:D

Appreciate the information...those are very good prices!

I found this at Knife Outlet. "Benchmade 42S Weehawk Balisong - Combo 4.2" 12C27 Partially serrated blade, 5.2" closed, Titanium handle, nylon sheath for $109.95.

Does anyone know what the letters following the models stand for? The above is an "S". On the site mentioned at the start of this thread I found an "A" and an "AS".

Also, what is the 12C27? If it is the type of steel, then how good is it?

Keep in mind that 1SKS.com will usually match other companies advertised prices and buying from them helps to support the forums. They have a minimum price that they are allowed to advertise BM knives for, but they can match prices if you e-mail them about it.

Taliesan,

Lets see if I can answer your questions. First, "S" stands for serrated. "A" is anodized handles. "AS" is serrated blade, anodized handles. It's pretty easy to pick up on the pattern.

12C27 is a steel made by Sanvik. It is a very good, durable, easy to fabricate alloy that BM used quite extensively on their older models. I have a very old Panther folder and Model 30 Bali that are both 12C27. The composition is as follows:

C- .58
Mn- .35
Cr- 14.00

As you can see, it is simple but good. This particular alloy is often referred to as "like 440C". I don't find any similarities myself. It's makeup is as follows:

C- 1.2
Mn- 1.00
Si- 1.00
Cr- 18.00
Mo- .75

Both have very good corrosion resistance, due to good levels of Chromium, but the edge holding on 440C is much better, IMHO.

Folks, Michael has asked me to let you folks know that all your order will eventually force him to close his pharmacy and go full time selling knives. :D Sorry Mike, I had to do it.

I'd buy from him anytime. Treats all his customers the same. First come, first serve. And I like it that way....

I followed your advice. Called them and they immediately matched the price. This forum has sure helped me so I was happy to return the favor a bit.

I should have my 42AS on Wednesday, God willing.

Wife says I worked too much before...now with that post I am sure I will have to work 18/day instead of 14....BTW, on price matching...we were benchmade direct for years....while we 'could' sell at any price we chose, we were expected to sell at their preset MAAP pricing. I did not feel it was good business to pretend to benchmade that I was a 'dealer in good standing' all the while not conforming to their MAAP pricing. Er tu, (sp) we 'cut the crap' closed our account with BM and have increased business 20 fold on their line. BM is excellent company, excellent service, excellent product...I have the utmost admiration for the company, (just don't get the MAAP thingie tho).
So we just set a fair price, dont play games and dont expect you to play games.....and forumite support of us helps us support bladeforums as a paying dealer. Gotta go,,,,phones ringing off hook....thanks to Tony....:D md

i recently bought a 43 from them. i had also bought a 47 from www.tripleaughtdesign.com . i got a 2day shipping for the one from newgraham for 121.25 and it came a day late (i assume they're really busy). the one i got from tripleaught cost 130 with 3day shipping and it came a day early.

my advice is go with tripleaught if you want it right away or if you're not in a hurry go with newgrahams and get the cheapest shipping

Hmm. When I ordered from NewGraham, I chose the standard ground shipping, came in three days...

Joe, we strive to ship EVERY in stock order (if received by 2PM EDT) the same day and have a 99%+ success at this policy. Not sure on your order..maybe we were our of stock and awaiting an order to arrive from the distributor, maybe a weekend came into play...(excuses!!!!I gotta million of 'me)...unfortunately, it was NOT because we were too busy...but hopefully that could be an excuse for the future! I do thank you for your support! Regards, Mike
