I just got a D'Allera Rescue and it was a lot more knife than I was expecting. Mine is the SE edge. I hear they came out with a drop point version that you can get with a PE. I am thinking this would make a Manix type knife for less than half the price. Am I right?

Kgriggs- they do make a PE drop point version, it is great, alot better than the old SE ones. They made some improvements to the handle, made it a little thinner and easier to work the ball bearing lock. I like the D'Allaras but the older ones were just to hard to work the ball bearing lock with my fat fingers. Glad you like it, they are built like a brick shithouse.

The new D'Allera Drop Point is an awesome knife IMHO. I love mine!! It fits my hand like it was made for it. The BB lock is very easy to use. It is silky smooth to open. It is a great knife for the money.
Here is a picture of mine.

:) The D'allara's are great! I bought the original, fell in love with it and immediately bought the drop point.
I am a recently retired (new hip) paramedic and this would have been a welcome addition to my gear.

cheers,

I have the 3 versions. The WTC , the original D'allara, and now the DP. I been EDC the DP for a few weeks now and i love it. It is very sturdy, and easely flicked open.

It is indeed a budget pocket beast

How well does this puppy stay shut, while in your pocket??? I've had problems with compression locks, liner locks, etc. opening in my pocket, which is why I'm pretty much staying with lockbacks. Even had a Paramilitary open in my pocket a month or so ago, which very much soured me on an otherwise very-much-liked knife.

So, does it stay shut until you want it to open?

The ball bearing does put some pressure on the tang of the knife in the closed position to help keep the knife closed. Not very much pressure though, it won't fall open on it's own, but it doesn't take much force to open the knife. I don't think I'd want to carry it tip-up in a pocket. YMMV

I carry two tip up ball bearing spydercos (the d`alla included) and they're both about as reliable as my axis locks, which is to say I think they're both great tip up carries. I carry my dodo all the time and honestly, I can't imagine it falling out. Especially with no thumstud to get a thread on....I imagine I could carry it every day for the rest of my life and it wouldn't happen.

The blade won't hang out, either. If it's out a couple CM, the bb will suck it back into the handle. I really don't see it happening.
