the diablo

Hi. I don't think anybody here knows too much about Master Cutlery. I have seen a few of their designs and even owned a folder. Most of the stuff coming out of Taiwan is pretty decent and generally priced between $20.00 and $50.00. The most popular Taiwanese knives here on the forums are those marketed by Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT). I imagine that there are only one or two large knife manufacturers in Taiwan and that these manufacturers are responsible for all the brands marketed here including Master - Vtech and CRKT among others. Welcome to the forums and the wide world of knives.

Welcome to the forums Soul.I never heard of the diablo by Master Cutlery but if they are selling it,the quality probably is'nt that good.

I am very familiar with the Tom Anderson designed Diablo by Master Cutlery. I ran across some for sale at a flea market for about $8.00 whopping US dollars. They're crudely made in China and come in blue, black or silver finish. In a word, it's rubbish. It's no where near the quality of CRKT or any other Taiwanese manufacturer. Even the Chinese made Kershaw Vapor is light years ahead of this peice of crap.

I ran across two other Master Cutlery knives as well. A Tom Anderson designed Seahawk and a Delta folder designed by Shane Sloan. These where the only interesting looking ones I saw, but again, the quality is no where near that of CRKT, Timberline or even United Cutlery. It's nice to see custom collaborations made available for those of us who cannot readily afford a custom or handmade knife, but as much as I liked the Seahawk, I would have liked to see an Anderson collaboration with a more reputable company.

Tom Anderson does have some collabs in the works with more reputable companies. thats all I can say :D

Taz, that's great news! Tom is such an excellent designer and custom maker, I'd sure love to see him tie in with a better manufacturer.

I've had an Anderson Custom and his designs and workmanship are top notch!

I did not realize that this knife was made in China. Most of the items I had seen from Master previously had been made in Taiwan. I believe most of the Taiwanese cutlery is of similar quality regardless of the brand name stamped on the blade. Remember that much of our consumer goods are produced in China. This will increasingly be the case and we can expect in the not too distant future that much of our cutlery will be produced there as well. You can count on improving quality from Chinese manufactured goods. Very soon Chinese goods will equal the products coming out of Taiwan and Korea today.
You can bank on that - literally, it is pretty clear that China will be a power house economy within our lifetimes. Our current dependence on Chinese product is irreversable. Within 20 years it is likely our reliance on Chinese production will be greater than our dependence on middle east oil is today.

i agree. I have a Tom Anderson Howler, the one from the Folder-In this past August. I also have a Fixed blade he made me to show me the process he goes through to make a fixed blade when he does make them. He focuses mainly on folders now. Great guy, great designs, great workmanship. Can't wait to get more $$ so I can get another of his blades! His designs are very fluid and unique, and i cant wait till the higher quality collabs come out :)
