The Good Ole Type Pocket Knife ... LIVES ON?

Just wondering how many of you still like and carry an old fashion type pocket knife?

EX. Stockman, Trapper, Copperhead, Congress, Canoe, Muskrat, etc., etc.

When I first started my knife craze, I specialized in collecting only Stockman Knives. Years going I worked my way up to tactical one handers. Now I find myself going back to the Stockman knife again, but still carring and using my favorite one handers locking knives, too!

What are your favorite multiple blade pocket knives if any?

Am I alone here!

Mark, you are not alone, (except about not liking fixed blades). I mean Case is the #1 collected knife in the country. How many knives have sold as many as Buck's #110 (over 10 million)?
I love Classic knives all types and styles, but I don't carry one, (unless you count a SAK).
One of my favorite patterns is the Trapper, funny but I don't own one, that Case/Bose Trapper was very tempting, but I just couldn't swing it.
Of my favorites that I own, I'd have to go with my Russell Barlow and Daddy Barlow in stag, I wouldn't think of carrying them.

I'm all over the place with regards to folder carry. Sometimes a Spydie, sometimes a SAK, sometimes a Leatherman Wave and, yes, sometimes a traditional pocketknife. Namely, a two-bladed Old-Timer or an Uncle Henry stockman with the rounded-off bolsters.

Somebody out there sure likes traditional folders, because we build/ship a few thousand a day!

Carbon bladed Trappers are my favorite.

Nope you are not alone. I carry a stockman. I also like the onehanders, but I have to have atleast one of my classic style pocket knives along with me.

Love them old Remington Bullet patterns. Big strong usable pocket knives. Of course you wouldn't use one today if you were lucky enough to own one.

Will, I think you know from whence I speak on this one.

I've only purchased one 'tactical' style knife compared to several fixed blade knives and a few handfuls of traditional style knives, all mainly carbon steel. While I like a number of patterns I carry a stockman and am always looking out for older pocket knives. Even my wife and kids are getting good at spotting nice ones in antique shops, hardware stores, garage sales and such, and my son and daughter have a few carbon steel pocket knives that they're learning how to use and care for. An hour ago I bought a fishing knife at a pawn shop, one of the budget Imperial toothpick models with the scaler and long clip blade, as even though it's kind of a humble model, crimped bolsters and all, it's one of the discontinued Hammer Brand models. Every tacklebox should have a traditional fishing knife in it, which is just a good excuse to buy another knife :^)

Yep.....I am a "retro" as well. Main carry, now, is a Case Special Select stag whittler.
Sometimes it might be an AG Russell Arkansas Toothpick Folder or, if a big knife is indicated, a Schrade Uncle Henry Mustang.

I don't want to be right all the time......I just want US to be right more often.

I always carry a nice pocket knife of some sort. I started with Canoe's, so I still carry them quite a bit all of various make's. I too am very fond of the Stockman pattern, and today is one of my favorites to carry. I like to catch people off gaurd at shows etc and ask them what kind of pocket knife they carry...They always seem like they cant get it out fast enough!

I've always had a utility pocket knife in one or another pocket, usually some sort of scout type, bone handles preferably. I generally lose one every five to ten years, so I've gone through a good dozen or so. Umm, maybe not quite that many. Right now I switch between a 1920's Ulster "Be Prepared" with the long pull and Dwight Divine on the tang and a '48 Camillus Official Boy Scout, that I got to celebrate the birth of my (younger) brother and lost and got another one on eBay, after scouting (no pun intended) out an undervalued one and pouncing. Am looking for Barlow right now, sawcut Delrin, doesn't have to be a Russell. Any help?

Besides all my customs and tacticals I collect jumbo split back spring whittlers. Old or new Case,Winchester etc. Scale material can be any type but really like stag, mop, and tortoise shell. My last 6 purchases have been whittlers although I did buy a MicroTech m-udt as a gift recently and it was very hard to part with to say the least.

I collect a particular brand of stockman. I always liked that style of pocket knife. I use a Case stockman and a Buck Creek whittler when I work on walking sticks. I have a Queen muskrat for a letter opener. I carry a SAK in one pocket and a single blade custom folder in the other. There is something nice about a custom posket knife with good steel that holds an edge. One can never own enough pocket knives.

Good to see you posting again Mark. I still carry a pocket knife daily, a Buck 532. Was carrying a mastodon handle one yesterday. Beautiful knife.

How have you been doing, Mark?

I carry a Scharde stockman I got for a gift in 1977 from my dad..It's cleaned fish, small game etc.
Peeled apples on hunting trips and at work and home.Opened everything from form letters to sshrink wrap packages. Opened oil cans and pried stuck rimfire cases out of an old worn out autoloader.I've whittled hotdog sticks for my kids when they were very young and carved soap animals and whistles and other toys. It's cut 6 pack wrappers off of a couple Canadian geese and once was made into a spear tip during a rat hunting expadition.
I have bigger knives and sharper knives.Cheaper ones and some that cost so much I'm afraid to use them.
It's not a highly collectable model but its worn a hole in the right front pocket of a hundred pairs of jeans and has another hundred stories to tell.
Hopefully we will be together to make an other hundred stories and when my grandson graduates I'll give it to him and say" let me tell you about my dad" and than I'll watch him use it to write his own stories.

Carrying a 4" trapper, Delica and a Gerber multi tool tight now. Prefer the locking blade on the delica, but the trapper is definitly what to pull out around sheeple, and semi sheple who ask to borrow a knife.I like trappers and stockmans alot though, have quite a few friends who do too.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Coincidentally, I ordered a Camillus Tuxedo just yesterday. First traditional slipjoint folder I've purchased in close to 30 years. I prefer onehanders, and I only bought it for travel carry, but I've got to admit I'm looking forward to its arrival (months before my trip).

My dad taught me to love 110's, and so I do. Dearly. No other folder feels as solid, open or closed.

And the 110 is a one hander! I just do an inertial opening by holding the blade. Wham!

All right, Glad I'm Not Alone!

Doing fine now Kodiak PA!

Thanks for asking. Been soooooo busy at work and was off sick for a while, too, but now I'm back, but it won't be near as often because of my work that is! At the Library now, just had to check out BladeForums.com!

Carring on me now my Mission MPF Ti and MicroTech SOCOM M/A and one of my favorite stockman knives, the Remington Jumbo Stockman #9501 "Green Over Yellow" with the 1095 high carbon steel blades. Love this knife! I believe it is made by Camillus for Remington, very nice and well made knife I must say!

Gotta run, feels good to be back

Mark

I don't really see the advantage of non-locking, non-one hand opening knives, hence I don't carry one.
