Some of you may know that I have been on a Grail Quest for this knife:
(images courtesy of Busse Collector)
It is the EU Uncle MoFo, only offered in the Minumental Ganza of Feb. 06. AFAIK, these were only ever pictured in Jerrys Ganza post. I have never seen another pic of them on the Forum. Have you?
btw, this might be a good time to review the terminology here, as it can get confusing.
MoJo flat grind
MoFo sabre grind
Mr. has the blade catch
Uncle is hookless.
Newbies may not know that Eric Isaacson is responsible for the Uncle model, as he asked Jerry to make his Mr. MoFo without the hook.
So I blame Porkerson for this obsession!
That Ganza also offered the EU Mr. MoFo versions
Some of these Mr. MoFos have been sighted since the Ganza, at least a few of the green ones have. xaman offered one for sale about two years ago, and while I dithered about the ugly hook, silverdragon33 took it.
Some regrets. :grumpy:
xaman did later take pity on me, and sold me one of his user DCBB Uncle MoFo, with the standard Ergo handle. Its great knife, but Im not a big fan of the E handles, and eventually I decided that I had to have the EU model. Liu Kang traded me a EU Mr. MoJo, but its just not the same.
Fast forward to last Monday. I was on the Forum during lunch at work, and over just a few minutes received PMs from both Mustard Man and stricknine, giving me a heads up on a EU Mr. MoFo that Dave Brown was selling. MM even suggested that I get the hook cut off, since the knife was already a user. (Isnt this a great place, looking out for each other, and enabling our collective obsession?)
Here it is in Davids sale post
So I sent off an email and asked him to call me. Turns out someone else had stripped the coating and sanded it to a very nice satin. I told him I wanted it, and asked if he would cut the hook off for me. I knew that he had done mods and even cut handles before, so I was comfortable that he could do it without messing up the knife. Dave knew that the Uncles normally have a little bump of a thumb ramp, and asked if he should try to copy that. The ramp was not important to me, and it would be easier to do the job without it, so I left it to his discretion to just make the transition on the spine from the blade to the handle.
Well, it arrived Friday, to my great surprise, and it is a thing of beauty!
A little bit of pits (INFI dimples) on the flats on one side, but otherwise very clean for a stripped Combat Grade knife. Somebody did a very good satin sanding job; whoever you are, I thank you, sir!
