The more knives I buy, the more I respect Spyderco

I don't just mean Spyderco knives either. Whenever I purchase any knife, from any company, I seem to fall deeper in love with my Spydies. I am constantly reminded that Spyderco has fantastic quality control, innovative designs, and knives that just plain work for me. Do you ever look at a knife and say to yourself, "it's nice... but it's not a Spyderco."

I opened my knife drawer today and realized that I have ten Spyderco knives.

(In the order that I purchased them)

1. Old Endura plain edge with plastic clip
2. Delica lightweight 98 plain edge
3. Delica lightweight 98 spyder edge
4. Native lightweight spyder edge
5. Gunting #448 plain edge
6. Gunting Drone #597
7. Pink Cricket (only came in spyder edge)
8. Lum Chinese folder #637 plain edge
9. Ladybug (only comes in 50/50 edge)
10. BladeForums Blue Native plain edge

That's probably not a lot for some of you guys but to me it is! I buy my knives to use them. Despite having a 'collection' of knives, I do not 'collect' them. Not only do I own ten Spydies but I carry at least three of them on a daily basis. The ladybug resides on my keychain and I need at least two others for pocket carry.

Not to name any companies here but I have been dissapointed with more than a few knife purchases. Sometimes I wonder, "why did I buy this thing?" Then it sits around collecting dust and rust. Other times I think I'm pleased with my purchase until I try to use the damn thing! I have never been dissapointed with a Spyderco.

As time goes on I move further towards a state of only buying Spyderco. As it is now, I only buy other knives when they offer a feature that isn't on a Spyderco (axis lock, etc). If it comes to a knife that is similar to a Spyderco, forget about it!

So here's to Sal and the rest of the Spyderco family! If you only offered an axis lock, a blade in Talonite, and a small fixed blade for concealed carry, I would never need another company again.

I have to agree with you, I have it bad for Spydercos myself. My two new ones are a Tuffram Worker and a Calypso Jr with Micarta. Both are really sweet. The Wegner Jr is still my favorite and one of the few knives I have more than one of.

Strange this one I have had a very happy relationship with all my Spyderco Products, then ATS-55 rusted at will worse than 1095 Carbon steel! Now my Starmate failed the spine 'tap' test with top honours:confused: when I say 'tap' I mean 'tap' not whack. So I whacked the knife in this test with some real gusto and the darn thing now does not fail the spine whack test as badly. If you value your fingers I suggest we all try out liner locks like this...

I posted in the General Forum as well about this. I don't blame Spyderco as a liner lock is a tough thing to get right, but I can honestly say I have been slightly dissapoined twice now with Spyderco products and that does not make me feel smug or happy at all:( . I guess I expected so much from Spyderco from past exellence I created an impression of quality in my silly little head that was bordering on the fanatical. It is too easy to loose perspective in this hobby. They still make the best in the business for the cash IMHO though:D !

Couldn't agree more! I have bought or traded for customs and I mean several and they weren't as quality as some of my Spyders.
