Hi all..I have an annoying noise coming from my benchmade 710hs. Its not real loud but it is one of those noises that get on my nerves after awhile. When the knife is CLOSED it will rattle when moved around or shook a little bit.The rattling is not coming from the main screw holding the blade in place nor the blade itself knocking the side of the knife, but I think it is coming from the axis lock thumbstud thingy. I squeeze that thumbstud on both sides of the knife and the rattling decreases some. The rattling does not occur at all when the knife is open for some strange reason. I also do not see any way to adjust the axis lock thumb thing to stop it from rattling. ANy one else have this problem? Like I said its not real loud but it gets annoying after awhile. Thanks.

My brother's Griptillian did that for a couple of weeks. It started shrtly after he got it and continued for a few weeks. Then, one day, the rattling suddenly stopped. It didn't rattle afterward.
The moral of this story: yep, what you are experiencing has been experienced by others, too. Give it a few weeks to go away. If it does not quit in that time period, or if it simply drives you nuts, send it in to Benchmade and they should repair or replace it. :) Good luck.

Maybe one of your Omega springs is broken. Here is a diagram (sp?) of what it looks like. My Grip rattles when closed because of the sleeved stop pin, but not at all when it's open. Good luck :)

Edited because the words came out before I thought about what I was going to say :footinmou Rattles when closed but not open.

I`ve got two 710s, but no rattles.

Sounds like you need to collect more pocket lint in the action. ;)

Nope! no rattles here,,

Not even in my BenchMades.

A quick trip to Angie @ BM is in order??

yozuri82,

My old mini-striker(sp?) was like that. The stop pin (that the blade rests against when open) was/is a bit loose. Angie at Benchmade said to send it in if it bothered me but I never got around to it...

Good luck,
tom

its not too bad that it affects the knife action or anything but it sure is annoying. If I hold the knife at the end (the butt of the knife where the screws to the pocket clip are) and shake it ..the knife rattles. The funny thing is that there IS NO rattle when the knife is opened up ..Why??
Thanks a lot for all of the replies..

Two possibilities. Stop pin or one of the Omega springs is broken.
Careful observation should answer which.

Try this, when the knife is open look and see where the blade stops against, the stop pin. It's right above the pivot. Close the knife and then push your finger against it and shake it, if it doesn't rattle now it's the stop pin/sleeve that's making the noise. My Grip is the same way. Benchmade uses sleeves to go around their stop pins to help beef them up and give them a longer life. If it bothers you send it in and they should have no problem making it right for you.

i have had a couple of pins do this - just take a little drop of blue thread locker and put it right on the pin - let it sit for a minute or two and then wipe off any excess - no more rattle! :)

Oh man. The ole lady just asked what the hell I was doing holding my knife up to my ear and shaking it. It wouldn't be so bad but yesterday she caught me staring cross-eyed at soft porn. I almost had that 3D thing goin till she smacked the back of my head.

whew....first i must say thanks for all of the replies.
from yall's information i figured out that that the thing rattling is the stop pin. Should i take sting7777's advice and find some thread locker and drop it on there or should i just send er back to BM. I don't have the receipt or anything from the knife purchase and I am unaware of their return policy. MANY THANKS!.

just use the loctite - it certainly doesn't hurt anything or violate your knife's dignity and the "rattiling" is not a design flaw - its just an auditory annoyance. I'd rather fix it myself than send it out and be without it for days/weeks.

Hahahahah and it's all my fault! :D

My 940 started doing that AFTER I got it back from Benchmade service department :grumpy:

Looks like it will need to take another trip back there for that headache.
