Was looking for something to put on SPS different or not shown lately but ran across this which will be an interesting counterpoint to all the nice looking knives you will see. (Nice stag Heath)

Here is a photo of a Black Sawcut 301 I took off the internet as a historic photo for my 300 series files. As you can see it has had a hard life. Someone must have owned a grinder or one of the heavy duty stones, as all three blades look like they have touched the spinning wheel at one time or another. The clip is shortened (broken tip ?), the spey reshaped and the sheepsfoot heavily sharpened. Also the SF tip edge looks like it has been used to pry on something and chipped. The white 'residue' on the scales is caused by keeping the knife in a tightly closed location for an extended length of time and not handling it. This is caused by the aging of the Delrin plastic and can be cleaned off with a light abrasive. If you have some of this start out with toothpaste. Then keeping the scale lightly oiled. (There is a thread on this way back down the line)

Even after all the trials and abuse of this knife a little careful cleaning and sharpening and it would continue to serve as a cutter for quite a while. Mind you it wouldn't be pretty, - in our eyes - , but it would be a useful tool. If you don't think so, try carrying a chipped flint as a cutting tool for a week....... Remember Buck knives started in a blacksmith shop and tool shed, knives made to use. 300Bucks

I posted this yesterday on Dave's slogan/giveaway thread -one of the all-time great threads by the way, thanks Dave!- but since it came late the party I thought I'd post it here as well.

This is posted on the official buck picture thread but I found it fitting for a Sunday.

I love the vanguards!

Wow, you guys all have such neat stuff to display. Here's my contribution this week. With the acquisition of the Kraton Skinner, I’ve finally completed my set of the Kraton handled hunting knives. The 602 is really sharp, only the photographer was harmed in the making of the picture. The years listed are the date codes on my knives. Displayed from top down are:
602 Trailmate (1995)
603 Kraton Skinner (1991)
605 Pathmate (1987)
619 Woodsmate (1991)
620 Campmate (1988)
639 Fieldmate (1992)
639OD Fieldmate (1988 with green handle)
Funny that they couldn’t come up with a “MATE” name for the Skinner. Haebbie has posted on these previously. More pics and information can be found there. Interestingly, he has a 639 displayed without the saw on the spine.

I guess I need to turn my attention to some of the Kraton handled "MATE" fishing knives now.
