Everyone,
This is something that was started on another forum I frequent, and I thought it was a good idea. Youtube can be such a huge resource that gathering all the cool videos into one place can't possibly be a bad idea (I know, I know, famous last words).

Try to keep the chatter down, or if you are going to chatter, then post a cool video with every post. If this works, then we could have something really cool.

I'll start.

ETA: Videos, unless there is objection, can be anything forging, grinding, knifemaking tool related. However, try not to stray too far away. Eg. "450 lb powerhammer"- Awesome. "Fitting guards"- cool. "epic knife fail LOL XD"- not so much

This thread is the place to post videos and such you think will be related to knifemaking.
If it isn't related, it will be deleted.

Try and keep chit chat about the videos to a minimum. There is no need to post, "Cool Video". A comment on a specific video that is relevant to the procedures used is OK. Be sure to reference which vide and post # you re talking about. For instance, "Notice how he turns the billet on its side about 3 minutes into the Damascus video in post #23."

Someone should probably explain how to embed a youtube video.
You will need your youtube ID, which is the set of letters and numbers to the right of the =. For example:
https/www,youtube.com/watch?v=A2NKcbCAcXk
These are the embed insertion codes, just put your youtube ID in the middle.

Just FYI, there are a couple other ways to embed youtube videos on this forum, which is nice. :)

Just copy the url of the video when you're at youtube.

Then come back here, click reply, and then click the little icon that looks like a short film strip, and it will allow you to paste the link.

I really like how Rick tried to start some dialogue about the videos. If we think a question or comment on a video is going to start a lot of talk, should a new thread be started with that question as the topic?

I think this is a great idea!!! :)

Yes, a separate thread about the video is OK, but should be the exception, not the rule. The deciding line is if it about a useful technique or Shop Talk related thing. What we don't want is a lot of threads of other people ( not members) doing things. I can always post a link to the thread in the sticky.

The trouble with youtube videos is that you never really know the source of the video and how reliable that info is.

I'm subscribed to this account name "slappybuckshot"
It's Walter Sorrells

I'm not going to post all 25 here/

I can't believe I forgot these. This guy is , IMO, pretty darn close to a prodigy in the knifemaking world.
