I got my Arete & Nessmuk back from Andy yesterday. :D
The Arete had a crack in the spalted maple handle I wanted filled.
The Nessie is an older one with beautiful ironwood scales & just needed Andy's mark.
Andy filled the cracks, remarked & sharpened/cleaned up the Arete & marked/cleaned/sharpened the Nessie. All for just the cost of return shipping.
Oh & I had to get another hat too.
Turn around time was just a week or two,I expected a couple of months or more as popular as he is & busy as he must be.
He very generously offered to rehandle the Arete at no charge:eek:,but I couldn't take advantage of his generosity & I do like the looks of the spalted maple.
Now it's ready for work.
Thank you Andy. :)

Both knives came with cardboard sleeves on the blades & in my haste to see my beauties I nicked my finger while sliding the Nessie out of the cb sleeve. :o
Damn these things are sharp! :)
Good thing he threw in the bandaid dispenser full of bandaids.

I have ferro rods on both sheaths so I decided to practice my fire making out back of the shop.
I remember someone(Mistwalker IIRC) using the twine(that Andy uses to secure the paper wrapping on his knives) as tinder & wanted to give it a try also.
I made a fuzz stick, crumpled some leaves, then cut a few lengths of twine & unraveled them.
On the second strike on the rod the twine flared up so fast I barely had time to get the fuzz stick & twigs on & get a pic.
I love the sharp spine for striking the ferro rod,it sure throws the sparks nicely.

I had to play with the Nessie too of course.

Great knives Andy, thanks again for the fast turn around, great work & great customer service.
And I didn't even buy the knives,I got them in a trade!
Fiddleback Forge (Andy Roy)sure stands behind his knives.
Now to get me some of that 3D spalting.

Both great looking knives!

An Arete is on my short list. Looks like it is a fantastic bush knife.

Thanks,I got lucky on the Arete,my first scandi. What a slicer it is & it feels great in hand.

That Nessie was one of the second batch of knives I made. Knives 6 - 12. I fixed a couple of flaws but left some too. Still cuts good!

Nice knives! I have the same two - arete and nessmuk. Your nessmuk handle looks really fat and round and comfortable to hold.

Wow,second batch, that old huh, cool,I love knowing the history of my knives.
Flaws add character too.(And I've got all kinds of character)
I was looking at past threads & found a pic on the second to last page (34).Way cool.
Now to look for an old pic of the Arete.....I love reading all the old threads.
Thanks Andy.

Hey Andy, are the Nessie handles you make today still like this one?? I mean the Contours on this Nessie...

Well, no. The design changed completely after that very batch. This one had a shorter handle. I also had no idea what I was trying to achieve with the handle scales at this time. I re-shaped this one a bit, and flushed the pins, etc. They are rough, to say the least.

The skills. They were very new skills then compared to now.
