I'm thinking about making a trade for a Battle Rat, and in looking at the Swamp Rat web-site, I could not find the specs on this knife.

Can someone please tell me how thick the Battle Rat?...And maybe any other info that owners of this knife can share?

I never noticed that they had the thickness listed for everything but the Battle Rat and the Camp Tramp. Both are 1/4 inch. Unfortunately I don't have one myself but I have handled both and they are both nice.
I'm sure someone that owns one will elaborate.

The BR looks about .25 inches, mine is a little more, probably due to the epoxy coat. It is very nicely forward weighted, and a very good chopper.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll like this one!

a few measurements of the br i have -

overal length - 14 1/2"
blade length (cutting surface (sewing measureing tape))- 8 1/2"
handle length (from tip to tip)- 5"
handle length from finger groove to finger groove (bottom of curves)- 3 1/4"
wideth (spine to blade) - 1 3/4
thickness - 7/32 (a little thicker then 3/16th)(wouldnt mind a 1/4"though... :))
thickness of handle - 11/16" at finger grooves
- 3/4" between finger grooves
- 7/8" at finger guard
thickness of primary gind (from edge to where it gets to full thickness) - 1 3/8" at its widest (where the spine starts to drop to meat the tip)
width of choil - 1"
depth of choil - roughly 3/8"
the balance point of the blade appears to be 3/8" out onto the blade surface (balancing it on my thin metal ruler - and giving a little for the paracord hand loop)

i dont have a scale, so i cant give weights, but from what ive read on the (dutch?) versions of bussecombat and swamp rat, the battlemistress is considerably heavier then the swamp rat. and i can say first hand that this knife feels about as indestructable as i could ever hope for. someday though... infi.... but swamprats deserves all the love you can give it, because its a bueatiful thing to hold and behold.

hope this helps

id really reeeeealy love to see a side by side comparason of the br with the bm-sh bm-e and bm-f

but, i guess ill just have to do one myself when i get one of them:)

also - the sharpening of this bueaties is a miracle!

im just using a sanding sponge - 100, 180, 320, and 2000 grit sand paper, and wham-o! easiest thing to sharpen....

also, if you do this - use painters tape on the blades primary grind so you dont completely remove the finish, like i did with my bandicoot.... i made it go from crinkle to smooth finish.... what you learn from mistakes are the things you will remember most - because they stare you in the face everytime you look at them :(

but, my br is in considerably better shape because of the painters tape.

the only question for me now is wether its worth the extra 250$ to trade up to the battle mistress fusion, and the extra 150 or so for the active duty tac....

150$(br)/100$(bandicoot) is a lot easier to acrue through minor savings then the 400/250 it would take to get their big brother and sister models.

i havent seen much head to head comparisons on ther performance of the bm vs br, but id like to.

If you are trading off a Ghurka Kukri, the BR will seem small and skinny, but it does chop well. The edge holding is good, and this steel responds very well to steeling.

I'm still not used to the convex grind, but that's just me. I've noticed that although the BR is/seems much lighter than the GK, it doesn't "stick" or "bind" in wood when chopping nearly as much as the GK does, it seems every time I use a full power stroke with the GK, I have to pry it out of the log, thanks to the flat grind. But it does penetrate like nobody's business... The BR seems to also not have nearly as much edge deformation on full power hits on hard wood. I am very impressed with this steel. The end of the handle bites my pinky after a while, though.

You are definitely getting the upper end of the deal when it comes to MSRP's. Want to come car buying with me next time??? :D
