Thinking about a Spyderco Ronin

I'm considering using some overtime money to get myself a Spyderco Ronin.

Lately my tastes in knives have "matured" and I no longer am satisfied with knives -- especially folders -- whose handles are set in place one time at the factory and pinned or riveted there forever. I sure don't like fixed-blade knives whose handles are completely covered with rubber or plastic or something -- I don't feel right about whatever's underneath there being forever inaccessible for cleaning, etc. I like a knife that can be unscrewed if need be, for maintenance or whatever. This limits my choices, but hey, what can ya do?

I can't tell from pics I've seen of the (fixed blade) Ronin whether the handle scales (micarta) are able to be removed, or if they're really fixed in place.

Please provide information if you have it. Thanks,

---Jeffrey

For $50 - $100 bucks more you could have a maker do the blade for you. I got a Model 1 with kydex sheath, S30V P.Boss HT, 2.75 inch Flat ground blade for $140. Check out the Knifemakes - For Sale - Fixed Blade. He is now currently involved in Liquid Metal and may take a while for him to whip up something. Doesnt hurt to email him or call him up.

I love my Ronin!!:D The micarta is permantly attached by a couple pins and three tubular type fasteners and there is a thong tube also. With the fit and finish of mine I can't imagine anything getting between the blade material and the handle material. It is a perfect match up!! Spyderco may have used an epoxy also, I do not know, but it is a perfect fit on mine. Not to mention with the use of VG10, I do not think that rust would be an issue. I quess what I am trying to say is that the handles are solidly attached and do not remove for cleaning, But I would not let this stop you from getting the Ronin. It is a great little SD knife with a blade shape that lends itself to utility tasks nicely also. Get it, you will not be sorry.

edited because I can't spell ritht the first time.:o
