Here's the blank piece of steel...

Amazing, isn't it ? The knifemaker is in Belgium. He is known as "Oufti"...

And here's the blade after grinding :

Nice colors before tempering :

Looks like it probably would feel good in the hand, But
I wonder.....Is there something wrong with the photo..?
or did the colors run too close to the edge, near the tip...?

These are maker's photos. I didn't actually see the knife just after heat treatment. But Oufti didn't tell me there was anything wrong while heating. I guess the photo is to be guilty !

..That last picture just looks so much like a Keshaw Junkyard Dog II. I love it, great job.

Thats a cool knife. I like the orange colored spacers between the handle and blade. Have you got a sheath for it yet?

It's a really nice looking knife, but like Russ, I would be concerned about the heat treatment from the looks of that photo. I don't know what could be wrong with the photo to show that sort of coloration towards the front third and tip of the knife. There doesn't seem to be any indication of a color shift caused by the photo itself.

I wouldn't : I trust the knifemaker and I know he pays attention to this. I don't know whether it's a photo after the first round of heat treatment or the second round. Colors on a cold blade have to be carefully understood.

And yes, there's a sheath, but I have to make some pics...

What kind of steel is it? And a big difference here. Is the photo after heat treat (hardening) or tempering? Id be worried if it was after tempering. but a beauty none the less.

D2. I checked with the maker : the photo is just after first heat treat (hardening), before tempering.

I'm happy you like it Patricx.

Hello everyone, no worries with the hardening nor the tempering, I swear :D

It's just oxidation on the tip out of the foil, I've never had bad surprise with my D2 HT recipe and my oven never bugged, but thanks for the comments !

And if there's a problem as Patrick plan to use it intensively he'll see it very fast :)

thought that might be what it was. knives baked in foil always come out with crazy colors. Looks like a great chopper! you did an excellent job on it.
