This will probably be a real stupid grinder question.

Dug out dads old craftsman 6 x 48 belt sander.Purchased 2 zircon belts, the only belts I could find within 50 miles of me.Oil it up, fire it up adjust the tracking, then stick a spring from my digger project on the belt and figured it would grind it in two pieces with the 50 grit belt.Well it won't even throw sparks. On my dremel 1 inch it will spark the same piece of metal a lot. That sucker isn't even turning probably 300 rpm, well pulley speed I couldn't guess how many fpm but not many.
The pulley on the motor is only about 1 1/2 inch on the outer rim so where the belt actually rides is probably only 1 inch. And the other pulley is only about 3 inches outside diameter.
The question is what combo of pulley sizes would you all recommend?I would need a bigger pulley at the top and the small pulley at the motor right?I really need to get this a thing a humming.I need to get a bunch of these diggers made and it is taking to long,I have quite a few sold if I can ever get them done.Even as slow as it is moving it still is hard to stall. The motor is a heavy, huge sealed motor but I haven't cleaned off the tag to see what horse or rpm yet,dad thinks it is at least a horse, but I am sure power is not the problem as much as the pulleys. Thanks again,Ric

Pulleys aren't that expensive and if you are able to adjust your motor then just buy a larger one for your motor. This will speed it up a bit. Looks like you are in the trial and error mode.

Its funny how for wood, bandsaws are fast and sanders are slow...just the opposite for metal.
