Chandan Handle UBBB

Anybody own one?

How does it handle?

Where's the balance point?

Is it a thruster or a slasher, or both?

Looks like a really nice design and size. I wouldn't mind seeing just a hint of a belly at the end of the blade, but maybe I'm visualizing more of a mini tarwar.

Kind of lame when you're the only person responding to your own thread ....

:D

in fact don't own and HI blades (yet.) But, on a blade that large- and keep in mind that you can't see the thickness so take this with a large grain of salt- I would guess that the balance point is about 15-20% up the blade from the handle.

of course, that also depends on how heavy that wood is in addition to blade thickness so this is probably all just useless conjecture on my part.

Unless I am right! then it is sheer brilliance!

Actually I think there were only two sold.

Sort of like if I weren't here and someone wanted some specs on my new line of nifes.

I think there are only a couple out there, Bamboo. I know i'd like to see more:D don't feel bad about talking to yourself. i do it all the time and i tell myself that i'm just fine;)

It's only bad when you start losing arguments.

I have pics of dis sword or pics of de udda. :p

Sometimes after i lose an arguement, I won't talk to myself for days. It gets awkward at dinner when I have to say to my better half "Bren, will you tell Jake to pass the salt...and that he's a big a$$." I can't eat alone when i'm fighting with myself because I won't pass anything. I just sit there making faces at myself. It's harder than it looks..

Cain't tell ya' nuthin' 'bout it, but...it shooore is purty!

Kinda has that "Indiana Jones-ish wouldn't it be cool if I were off on a grand adventure saving the world and had this hanging stylishly off my hip while a film crew followed me" sort of appeal to it.... :D

Apparently it is a rare one...

I emailed UB to see if there are any more, although I doubt it.

I'll keep my eyes open on the UBDOTD... If anyone wants to sell their's - either one of you - :D - just email me.

Thanks for the posts, I was already starting to argue with myself.

No, you were argueing with me...

No I wasn't. You're the one who started it.

I'm leaving.

No, I'm leaving...

Hello

I own a chandan handled uddha sword. So there are two eh?

It's got heft to it, and a interesting design. Has some decent distal taper to it so I wouldn't go around chopping trees with the quarter front of it.

It's real nice. I won't be giving this one up.

:D

I got the other one...

The thing is a beauty. It is definitely in the same line as the Afghan Choora Blades, the only difference being that the tang is thinner in thickness than the blade, like all the HI Chiruwa tangs, whereas the Afghan Choora Blades I have seen pictures are thicker at the handle then the blade itself (think of the spine profile like a skinny tapered candle).

Beautiful Chandan handle. I as well will not be giving up mine. It will provide many years of poking yet...

Edit:

Oh yeah...there were questions posted...duh.

The Uddha is a thruster and a slasher. The end of the blade has a little curve to it, allowing it to slash if the tip of the blade is used. But te overall blade is straight enough to deliver an accurate (and very deadly) thrust.

Balance point...hmmm...when it is sticking out of a victim, it can stand on its own pretty well...Uh-oh...think I said too much...

Thanks for the comments guys, glad to know that you recommend it and (unfortunately) won't part with yours.

I'm going to keep my eyes open for another one.. I think that's referred to as an SWI .... Sharking With Intent.

:D

Search for "Khyber Bowie" and you'll find similar styles by other makers.

I have a nice one, maker unknown (Paki) that was once one of my favs... then, the HIKV.

Nickle silver bolster, horn (plastic?) handle, long- like a murderous kitchen knife. I think I took it when bowhunting on the theory that if I can't have a pistol, I want the scariest piece of steel I can find.

Yes, I am on the Udda hunt too. I always liked the Kyber bowie and this one is made by HI. I am still looking to get a seax though and I could have been in on the first batch, but I wanted one two inches longer, and I want a dui chirra too, those fullers and everything and the Jange looks really sweet too, kind of similar to the dui chirra and I always wanted a tarwar because I think it is a great sword, and the AK bowie finally put a hook in me too, after a couple years of hearing about them, but I am totally broke and rambling here so I will just go off and weep quietly for a bit.

Hey Bob,

You're not alone in your wanting, weeping, and rambling...

Perhaps I have done myself a huge disservice in this thread - Bringing attention to the rare Udda sword. :(

Have I just caused more sharks to join the frenzy??
