Thoughts on the pink Delica

My wife likes her micarta Calypso Jr. but she's left handed and the clip is only for right-handers.

So lately she has been carrying the Blue Delica that I bought her a while back.
Recently she has been going through a pink phase, so she was excited when I told her that Spyderco once made a Pink Delica.

So she had an idea:
How about a sprint run of the Pink Delica with some of the money going to breast cancer research?

Would anyone else be interested?

Allen.

Aloha!

That'd be cool, as one of my good buddies has just beaten the crap outta cancer!!! (You go Craig!!!)

Also, I KNOW my wife would buy a few of 'em in pink, ALL if they were in a plum like color!!! :D

God bless ;)

I'd might be interested in a pink delica for myself. Has to be lefty friendly, though.

Good idea on the breast cancer research, stuff.

I wonder if whoever runs the Breast Cancer foundation would like to be associated with knives...

It is a good idea though. Everyone wins.

I think it's a great idea too. I know several people that would probably pick one up, and most of them are women too :) Something "sensible" like a Delica seen in this light might even help promote the "legitimate tool" image to the NKPs.

That idea has some merit I think. As someone who collects colored Delicas I would buy one for sure. As for the mainstream population I think that a smaller more sheeple friendly knife might work out well. Now a pink ladybug and photon would have double the utility value for the masses.

I forgot to add that it would be awesome to make with an ambidextrous wire pocket clip. Another idea is to use a wire clip, but have it crossed over in the middle like the cancer awareness ribbons. I actually don't know if it would still function as a clip as well in that shape and it might be a little too over the top, but something to think about none the less.

Hamanoichiba has pink delicas last I looked. A run of pink ones again would be nice though. My wife wants one badly.

I need at least 2 as it is. I'm debating ordering from hamonochiba, because The exchange rate is terrible right now. it looks like I may have no choice, though.

I think it's a pretty good idea. The Delica is maybe on the big end of the scale for the knife to choose for the benefit, but not undoable (and would help get a lot of people used to a regular-size pocket knife again). The Jester-and-Photon idea is good, too.

Spyderco could give away some and sell a bunch more at any of the many breast cancer walks and other benefits. Great PR and helps out a good cause at the same time.

I know my wife and mother-in-law would get a kick out of either. I'd probably end up getting a ton for gifts... :)

allen, that's just about one of the best ideas i've heard in a while. if this happens, my wife and i will take two.

abe m.

The pink delica is a great concept. One each for wife and daughter... to start.

The hamonochiba link is pretty amazing, I've never been so absolutely lost on the web :)

Thanks guys.

Maybe the "pink ribbon" could be part of the handle design, like the "Clipit Delica" logo.

What do you think Sal?

Allen.

I absolutely love this idea! If not a pink Delica (which I'd prefer) then maybe the pink Ladybug, possibly with a pink Photon II.

The smaller knife would be less intimidating and less expensive, so it would be more popular for gifts.

A pink Ladybug with a pink ribbon "lanyard" could also use a matching clip or other attachment which could be used like jewelry to attach to one's clothing, etc. Very convenient and a more "feminine" way to wear one's knife.

There is the possibility of some negative publicity. However, for those who would be most likely to go for a little blade, that would not be a problem.

As for those who would not have been likely to go for a little knife, any "negativity" wouldn't matter. One might even argue that "more publicity" ("negative" or otherwise) could only be a good thing! It would certainly get Spyderco's name out more often in the larger world. An opportunity to do some extra education, if you will.

Think about this Sal!!

Karl

(Ed. to add that "Underaged" had a damn good "leash" idea!)
