Not too long ago I posted a review/comparison of 5 different stockman style knives in the review subforum. Several posters, including some who frequent these parts, commented on the three spring Bucks compared to the two spring Queen and Case stockmans.

My question is; are there other stockman knives that have three springs besides Buck?

I believe Great Eastern's are. I have an UN-X-LD whittler, and it has 3 backsprings. Its the same pattern frame as the stockman. They run a hair over 4-1/8" closed.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments. I'll check out the large Case and Great Easterns. It would seem to me that three springs would be preferable to two springs. I like the way the Buck blades are inline w/ the handle and not crimped the way the blades are on two springs designs. I wonder why more aren't manufactured w/ three springs.?

bulldog has a 3.75 in. 3 blade trapper made by gec. at that size one might consider it a 3 blade stock.it does have 3 springs.

The two spring models can be made a little thinner and lighter, but not by much.

Discontinued now, but this "NRA Outdoors" stockman they contracted and imported through Benchmade has 3 backsprings, and the non-typical blade layout of the Buck stockman.

Quality is also amazingly high, one of the best imported pocketknives I've had.

Hey Bearclaw, is that NRA micarta or diamondwood, and how long closed? I really like that pattern.

The Case Humpback Stockman and the GEC Cuban Stockman are both 2-spring models.

I bought one of those too - micarta, 3-1/2" closed. Amazing knife for the price, and the raised bolsters (ala Canoe pattern) are a nice touch. A while back, one of the members here posted that it was a collaboration between Benchmade and a fairly well-known knifemaker/designer. I can't remember who it was.

thx - cpr
