I've tryed to throw a folder before and of course it wouldn't stick. Is it because its not an actualy "throwing knife"? Or just because I dont know how to throw a knife? Is it hard to learn how to? What do I need to go about doing?

Thanks

If you can roll a joint while driving a car then you should be able to throw a knife.

Both are easy when sober, both will kill you if stoned.

Greetings SDW. Folders generally SUCK for throwing. Get one of the cheapo Cold Steel "True Flight Throwers".($25 or less) To start with, play with it. Fondle it. Get the feeling for the balance, like ya do on a new Bali. Find where the blade sits in your hand the best. Get about 7-9 ft from your target. (Nothing living please. This includes trees.) Then throw it stiff wristed. Don't "try" to put a spin on it, it will spin on its own. Also, don't throw it too hard as a bounce back really sucks and is very dangerous to ones fragile person. Here is my trick. As soon as you see your hand out of the corner of your eye, let go of the knife. Your arm wil be at a little over a 90 degree angle. Sounds silly, but it works for me. Don't forget the follow through. Arm should go in a complete arc. Try the "Great Throwzini" he has lots of good info. Folders, even Bali's are too fragile for throwing. Also don't throw anything you want to keep pretty. Good luck, and don't forget to take a towel.

Hoplophile gave some pretty good advice. I would only like to add a few of my own personal thoughts. If you haven't thrown much in the past, and aren't too good at sticking knives, start with something CHEAP. Because, until you get the hang of it, your knife will probably take a beating. Once you can stick your target in about 50% of your throws at close range, then consider using a better quality knife. Longer, heavier knives make better throwers than short lightweights. And, watch out for the recoil, as knives sometimes like to bounce off targets and fly back at you if you aren't careful. Also, folders make lousy throwers, simply because they are likely to break. The only folders I throw are the cheap ones that are on their way to the garbage can. This is their final salute.
