I have this axe/ tomahawk thing, that has a small axe head, but a tomahawk haft. I started throwing it today, and I have figured out the distance to throw it perfectly. I know about using the same amount of force for every throw and stuff, but do you guys have any tips for me?

Practice 'til it hurts, then practice some more.

Then learn how you need to vary for various distances.

Rinse, repeat.

Consistency with your throwing motion and release. Kinda like golf.:D Next thing to try is taking about another half step backwards, holding the hawk with the edge facing you/up instead of facing the target/down and try and get it to stick handle up. Fun stuff, hawk tossing!

Axe heads can be tough, depending on the angle of the grind even if you throw it right they can still bounce right off. go through the motions of your release without actually throwing the hawk, get the muscle memory down 100% before you even release.

I was introduced to tomahawk throwing just last week in DEEP eastern Kentucky. My in-laws reside there and used to attend all of the rendevous events in the midwest. I was taught to begin with throwing at a distance of 7 of your paces from the target. Seemed to work for me. Much practice and adjustments would need to be made for varying distances. I have a couple of throwing hawks on the way compliments of beaverbill.com.
