i don't know if these count as "knives," but do throwing cards work well, and are they safe at all? heres a link throwing cards

Throwing cards are an impressive novelty trick. I had an instructor who could stick them into watermelons... quite good.

But they pose little danger to yourself or others: they have almost no real mass, and can only stick in fairly mushy targets. Having been hit by a few, they don't even sting longer than a second.

A year ago, Mythbusters took a look at this, and even when shooting cards out at 175mph, they couldn't do damage to bare skin except for a little blood.

If you want to see some impressive card throwing, check out Ricky Jay.

I didn't catch that from the minimal description provided on the weblink.

It's hard to say--they'd need to have a degree of weight to them to work well. If they're lightweight, they won't stick in much of anything. Not a single seller indicates the weight of a single card, which tells me something.

If they're sharp as claimed, that won't help in throwing, but certainly can help in slicing your finger and thumb. Another website of a similar product claims they're not very sharp, but that's a competing product.

I might be short-sided, but I'm not seeing an upside to these as weapons. if concealed, they certainly won't help you with law enforcement! If you use them, they look like they'll bounce off or scratch, at worst.

On two other websites, they're definitely pitched at a "younger" audience. I'd suspect these are little more than novelties.

Dude, these are a novelty finger cutter.

I suspect you aren't looking for a weapon tho. They're fun. Pick em up.

I bought some once. lost one still got the other 4. gave it a shot but im not good at throwin em. now thats just me, i cant throw regular playing cards eather, i assume if you can throw playing cards well and accurcaly you can be very good with these but if your not good with them i wouldnt bother

The "Mythbusters" episode they aired today had a segment on throwing cards. The one guy is quite good himself, and they had the master of card-throwing, Ricky Jay on the show as well. (Jay can peg a card about 200 feet!)

Nix on the card-as-weapon though, not enough mass. They made up a launcher capable of far more speed than a human thrower, and all it would do is sting a bit.

I just saw this episode of Mythbusters earlier today. Completely debunked as a weapon but the launcher was way cool.
